Semester 1 Reports will be available on Compass for viewing on Thursday 27th June.

This year you will see some changes in your child’s report. Instead of a comment section in the report, there are learning outcome statements related to Critical and Creative Thinking and Personal and Social Capabilities that are aligned with the Victorian Curriculum and the Department of Education.

Having the learning outcome statements has allowed teachers greater time to discuss your child’s learning and achievement in year level teams rather than spending time individually writing student comments. Together, teachers across the school have discussed the areas of learning and developed consistency in statements to demonstrate student behaviour, attitude and achievement.

We have also revised the structures in place within learning environments to allow for greater time to conference with students (both one on one with the teacher and group conferences). This has enabled teachers to develop a more comprehensive understanding of each student as a learner.

We believe the processes we have put into place this year has created more opportunities for rich discussion about children and allowed teachers to develop greater collective ownership and understanding of individuals and the cohort of students.

This Semester we have supported our assessment processes to ensure they are streamlined across the school. Our Literacy and Numeracy Learning Specialists have been attending Professional Learning Team meetings to assist teachers with moderation of assessment pieces, work samples and progression points to ensure teachers have a clear understanding of student achievement. This has allowed for greater consistency in data across the school and has allowed teachers to engage in rigorous discussions regarding student learning and achievement. It has also decreased variability to ensure the progression points of all students are accurate and reliable.

We have also engaged in whole school moderation sessions where teams can cross reference student work samples with teachers from other year levels, which again ensures consistency and rigor in our data practices.
