The cows have arrived!
Cows Create Careers
The Dairy Australia project, 'Cows Create Careers' is being undertaken by students. We have been fortunate enough to have local dairy community support the school.
Janette Falls of Elders Finley gave an informative talk to interested students about the broader dairy industry. She told the group how there are no boundaries to anyone who wishes to enter any part of dairy. She herself is a registered auctioneer and stock agent. Andrew Wilson has supplied the school with four heifer calves. A group of dedicated students have braved extremely cold mornings and after school to feed Maggie (Holstein), Moo Moo (Aussie Red), Honey (Jersey) and Archibald (Cross Bred). The calf’s growth rates are being measured and will form part of our report back to Andrew and Dairy Australia.
Senior student Warwick Maddern set up the calf pens in both class and his lunchtimes as part of his VCAL studies. With the calves having a secure pen, good shelter and access to hay, water and grain. A great job Warwick!
Thanks also to Murray Goulburn Trading for the donation of hay and straw for the calves.
