Principal's Report

Hello BRPS community,

Welcome to the latest edition of the BRPS Newsletter. After a long Melbourne Cup weekend (for our students!) It was fantastic to meet with families from across the school at our Family Literacy night as students shared their many and varied writing talents.

Remembrance Day

I would like to sincerely thank our students for their respectful participation in our school Remembrance Day Ceremony last Friday, 9th November, as well as providing beautiful flowers for class wreaths that were placed at the base of the flagpole.

To commemorate Remembrance Day, an invitation was extended to our School Captains, Olivia, Oliver, Amelie and Nathan to take part in a Centenary Remembrance Day Service. The Beaumaris RSL, Bayside City Council and Hampton RSL held this joint service of Remembrance at Green Point in Brighton.

This year was the Centenary of the signing of the Armistice to end the First World War on 11 November 1918. As part of this service, the school captains were asked to lay a wreath and were provided with the opportunity to hear from a number of guest speakers, including former war veterans.

Amelie: I enjoyed attending the service on Sunday. It was interesting hearing all the former veterans speak. It was also an honour to be a part of the wreath laying.

Olivia: I was very privileged to be a part of such a special day. It was an incredible experience knowing that over 100 years ago, people were fighting for our country. The ceremony really did commemorate the soldiers who had fought and fallen.

Nathan: I was honoured to be a part of the ceremony on Sunday and to lay a wreath for the service on behalf of my school. We all came together to remember their sacrifice for this country.

Thank you to Mr Muller who attended the community ceremony with the students on Sunday.

2019 Staffing and Class Structure

If your child is currently in Grades Foundation (Prep) – 5 and will not be enroled at BRPS next year please notify the office in writing at your earliest convenience. It is vital that we receive this information as soon as possible to allow us to finalise class structures and staffing arrangements.

Throughout Term 4 until early December, we will be working on our class structures and student combinations for next year. This is a very complex process, influenced by many factors including changes in student numbers and staffing combinations that will cause us to reshape our proposed class structures several times throughout this term. We maintain our commitment to small average class sizes across the school.

Due to this, it is vital that we are made aware of any circumstances that may impact on our enrolment numbers. Please let us know urgently if you intend to enrol a child at our school, if you are aware of people in our community who will be enrolling, or if you intend to transfer to another school. We require this information as soon as possible in order to establish grade structures for the start of the new school year.

Thank you to those families who have previously notified us of your intentions.

2019 Commencement Date & Curriculum Days

Each year government schools are provided with four student-free days for professional development, school planning and administration, curriculum development, and student assessment and reporting purposes. The first day of Term 1 is a student-free day in all government schools to allow for appropriate planning to take place for the arrival of students. The remaining three student-free days are determined by each individual school.

To assist parents with forward planning, BRPS has allocated the following dates in 2019 as curriculum days (student-free) to support development and implementation of our identified improvement priorities:

  • Tuesday 29 January
  • Wednesday 30 January
  • Monday 25 March
  • Friday 3 May

Therefore, the first day of school for all students in 2019 will be Thursday 31st January:

  • Yr 1-6 will commence at 9am
  • Foundation students will commence at 9.30am

Year 5/6 Swimming Program

The Swim and Survive program for Year 5/6 students on Monday. Please remember to ensure all required items are packed and ready to go for the first lesson!

Have a great fortnight everyone,
