Unseen Forcees

The children have been involved in the Explore stage of our science unit. They have been using their senses to explore ideas, collect evidence, discuss observations and keep records. They have observed items at school and home that produce light and sound. Hands-on experiences have been conducted to explore how vibrations cause sound, which can be sensed. This was done by feeling our own larynx as we speak. We investigated vibrations by speaking on to a balloon and then explored how percussion instruments produce sound. Using a string-can phone we are exploring how sound travels.

As part of Design Technology, the children designed their own instrument that would produce sound. Plans were followed, instruments constructed and evaluated. We have not yet conducted an orchestral performance. That is yet to come!
