Events and achievements

On Monday the 24th of February, our leaders attended a Leadership Training Day held on campus. Here, the newly appointed Middle School Leaders participated in activities aimed at equipping them with valuable skills and knowledge to lead their peers and utilise their student voice within the college.

Leaders are receiving their badges in their respective Year Level assemblies and we would like to extend our earnest congratulations to the Middle School Leaders, whose dedication to building a positive and inclusive school community has earned them these positions for 2020.

In addition, we would like to make special mention of Yiming Ng, who successfully completed Units 1 and 2 of a VCE subject in 2019 when he was in Year 9. This year, Yiming is studying the corresponding Units 3 and 4 for this subject, meaning he is undertaking a Year 12 subject as a Year 10 student. We commend you on your courage, self-discipline and love of learning, Yiming!

Our Community

As mentioned in the last newsletter, this year the Middle School Team have set a goal of enhancing the sense of community within the college. This month, we have focused on the value of ‘kindness’, in particular how developing and practising this character strength can create a ripple effect amongst people. In their assemblies, our students watched a short clip about the importance of being kind and the positive emotions that are our reward when we treat others with kindness.

Looking ahead

Next week, on March 16th, our Year 9 students set off for their 3-day camp at Phillip Island Adventure Resort. This camp, an integral part of the ‘InterGREAT’ program at Ringwood, encourages students to problem-solve, think critically, work within teams, and demonstrate patience and resilience as they complete a range of activities at the resort and on the beach. Final information will be shared with students in their next assembly, and any remaining questions beyond this can be directed to Peter Vlahos or Marissa Lee in the Middle School Office.

Lastly, planning for the Central Australia Tour is running smoothly and quickly, and students have been asked for their input in designing the logo for the camp bags and T-shirts. Any student with a flair for creativity and an eye for design, whether they are attending the camp or not, should contact the Middle School Team as soon as possible to share their vision for the 2020 Central Tour logo.
