Term 2 - Week 6 - Friday 2nd June

National Reconciliation Week

This week we have celebrated National Reconciliation Week. This is an annual celebration of respectful relationships shared by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and other Australians. It is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.  All our students have participated in activities that celebrate our wonderful Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history and culture in their classrooms.

This year’s National Reconciliation Week theme, Be a Voice for Generations, urges all Australians to use their power, their words and their actions to create a better, more just Australia for all of us.

Campfire Conversation

On Thursday 20th July Mitcham Primary School along with Mullauna Secondary College will be hosting a Campfire Conversation to discuss Indigenous Australian Self-Determination in education. This is an initiative of the Education Department to gather and share ideas about how schools can be places where we strengthen school experience and learning opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander students. During the day we will be running multiple cultural activities for all our students. We would really like for you to be involved in the afternoon activities, so please save the date. More information will be distributed shortly.

School Enrolments for 2024

Our school is receiving many applications for both our Montessori and Mainstream programs, so if you have children already at Mitcham Primary School and a little one about to start Prep next year, please contact the office and enrol now. If you know of a friend whose child is at kindergarten, and is expecting them to start here in 2024, please let them know that enrolments are being taken now and if they would like a tour of the school to please contact the office.

The Department of Education has released a new statewide Foundation (Prep) enrolment timeline. The timeline advises families when and how to enrol their child into Foundation (Prep) at a Victorian government primary school, including Mitcham Primary School. The new timeline will apply for children starting Foundation (Prep) in 2024. All government primary schools will follow the new timeline in 2023 to support Foundation (Prep) enrolments for the 2024 school year.

You can find information and resources about the new timeline, including factsheets and the ‘Foundation (Prep) Enrolment Information Pack for Parents/Carers’, at: Enrolling in Foundation (Prep).

You will be able to apply to enrol your child in Foundation (Prep) 2024 at Mitcham Primary School now.
