DMP- Developmental Play

In Foundation/1 we love our DMP sessions! Students get to practice their 'Keys to Communication' that they have been working on in our Social and Emotional Learning sessions. They are also able to experiment with construction items, delve into dramatic play, and strengthen the fine motor skills needed for writing. This week Essie took on a leadership role of running a finger knitting workshop, teaching her peers this new skill, which was a very popular activity.  Cooperative play in small groups is always a big hit, competitive turn taking games and solitary goal orientated play is also encourage problems solving skills and forward planning. Children express that this lesson is often their favorite one of the week.

"I like DMP because I like playing with the farm with Maggie. I like building cars with the magnets. Sometimes it falls down and breaks apart so I just build it back together again."

Best Buddies!

Big buddies and little buddies teamed up to experiment with some digital technology to make a short stop motion story using photographs. The buddy groups used characters and figures from our classroom to create a short story. Students moved the characters in small increments and photographed each frame. At the conclusion they shared their product to the group. All buddies had a great time.
