Have you seen RHPS's sensory path?

Sitting still is a challenge for lots of kids (and adults!). Staff at Rolling Hills Primary School realise that children are actually more focused on learning when they’re given a chance to wriggle, fidget, and move around. There are many ways for teachers to include opportuities in the classroom to use up energy. These may include brain breaks, movement breaks, classroom yoga breaks, flexible seating, and fidget gadgets. A recent additional option is for students to use the sensory path that has just been placed on the ground near the front office, around to the portable classrooms. The sensory path helps students to re-focus their energy throughout the day.

At Rolling Hills we have completed phase 1, and will hopefully have phase 2 complete by the middle of the year. This sensory path is a series of guided movements for kids to follow, shown by markings on the ground. As students follow the path and complete the movements, they work off excess energy and develop their gross motor skills. The various movements on a path are designed to engage different parts of the body and brain, from frog hops to spins and side ways movements.

John L (56P) - A staff member was busy working with preps in the Boorai, yet needing support to get a school bag to a class in the main building. John walks into the Boorai to do another job... The staff member asked him for help - he runs and drops off the bag and back to the Boorai to do his other job ALL with a lovely smile! Thank you John!

A current student, not yet to be named, is creating a felt animal in Art. When I asked what he is going to do with it once it is completed told me that he will give it to his sibling as a gift. What a beautiful planned act of kindness. To find out who this is.....read the next newsletter :)
