Wow! What a busy couple of weeks we have had in Prep Guy. In Reading we have been learning about non-fiction texts and their features. We have also learnt about decoding strategies to work out unknown words in our reading. Students have been using the strategy of Lips The Fish which reminds students to get their mouth ready for the most common sound made by the first letter and Owl Eyes which reminds students to look at the matching pictures for clues when working out unknown words. We have also been learning about the comprehension strategies making connections and predicting what we think our texts will be about. Students have loved using expression when putting on their plays of The Three Billy Goats Gruff! In Writing/ Spelling we have been using our phoneme fist to sound out words and writing the most common letters to match the sounds we hear. We learnt how to write a card to our Mums for Mother's Day ( we hope you enjoyed your special morning tea in our classroom) and a letter to our buddies and we have been working on forming our letters correctly in the sky, grass and dirt paper. We have also been working our way through the 100 Most Commonly Used Words. In Maths we have been learning about the days of the week, seconds, minutes and hours. We also planted trees in the front of the school with Kristy Neilson last week. Thank you to Kristy for sourcing the trees and guards. Students will nurture these trees every week.
We celebrated Education Week this week by joining in an author/ illustrator Webex where we learnt how to draw like an illustrator. Wow, we have some budding illustrators!
Last week Hayley was chosen as our Student Of The Week by her peers because the class said Hayley was a wonderful role model.
This week students voted for Piper because they said Piper shows respect, responsibility and resilience all the time.
This week in Grade 1/2 we have been learning about perimeter, area and addition in Numeracy. In Literacy we have continued our learning about non-fiction texts and their features. We are all really looking forward to our first excursion to Dinosaur World on Thursday and continue our learning about dinosaurs.
Grade 1/2 Smith Student of the week was Aisha and in Grade 1/2 Stoll we had Isla. Well done girls; we are very proud of you both.
