Great effort from all boys who represented Copperfield College Kings Park at the Keilor Division Soccer Competition. Demonstrated tremendous teamwork, sportsmanship and great football ability on the day leading to positive results against Gilson College and Victoria University. Unlucky going down to Taylors Lakes Secondary 5-1 in our second match of a back-to-back, but definitely many positives to take from the game. Well done.

Senior Basketball
On Wednesday the 10th of May, the senior boys basketball team made the journey to Altona Sports Centre to compete in the Keilor Division tournament.
In the first round, Copperfield were drawn to play Gilson College, winners of the tournament 3 years running. The team was led early by combo guard Riley Cassar (14 pts), however, Copperfield lacked size and rebounding against three players of Gilson, who stood between 6’4 and 6’5. Copperfield trailed by 8 with less than 2 ½ minutes remaining, until a huge corner 3 by Nebiyu Menberu cut the margin back to 5.
The Copperfield boys ramped up and were more aggressive with their press against Gilson, leading to some forced turnovers and created fast break points to put the scores at 22-20. Enter star guard and captain Jericho Jimeno. Jeri beat his man off the dribble all day and knocked down a floater to tie up the scores with 20 seconds remaining. It appeared Gilson were happy with the draw; however, Jeri, was not. As Gilson’s star player dribbled up the floor, he was stripped by Jimeno, going the other way like the flash, sealing victory for Copperfield with only 2 seconds on the clock, 24-22.
The scenes were unbelievable, and the bench was going crazy, but the team had to remain focused for their upcoming game against VU. The team carried in momentum from the previous game with Year 12 forwards, IJ Tuakoi and Innocent Kalala giving the team some highlight plays in the form of a thunderous jam and huge chase down block respectively. The team also got great contributions from the bench in this game from guards James Kaiser and Alex Tran as Copperfield went on to beat VU convincingly 33-15.
These 2 big wins ensured Copperfield made the final against Springside West. The boys confidence was high, and it showed as the team got out to an early lead from the hot shooting of captain, Jericho Jimeno (22 pts on 5/6 3pt). Springside were never really in this one, as Copperfield locked up their star player through the solid defence and rebounding of centre Saf Owusu. With the grand final all but over, team hype man Wayne Telepe knocked down a big 3 pointer from the wing to win 39-17 and conclude a triumphant day for Copperfield.
The senior boys will now go on to compete in the Western Metropolitan Region on the 26th of July, where they may regain the services of injured starting centre Goch Ayiik, guard Angliss Lee-Lo and specialist shooter Anthony Naguit. Thank you to team manager Nathan Peacock, helper Latrell Tafa and coaches Mr Goundar and Mr Dench for their services on the day.
