Sydenham Campus Principal Message

Sydenham Campus Principals Report

May 2023

We welcomed many families to the Family/Student/Teacher interviews in the last week of term. It was great to be able to see students introducing family members to their classroom teachers. Families are reminded to view Term 1 Interim reports with their children and to follow up on any questions by contacting subject teachers.

We would like to acknowledge and congratulate the following students who have received Copperfield College Scholarships in 2022 Year 7. These students went through an application and interview process to secure these scholarships. They should be realy proud of what they have achieved and we are excited to see what they achieve in the future.

Also on Thursday May 11th, our year 9s had a session with Batyr. Batyr are leaders in PREVENTION and STIGMA REDUCTION of mental health. Through sharing lived experience stories and peer-to-peer education they are keeping young people from reaching the point of crisis and changing lives. Their goal is to educate young people on living mentally healthy and fulfilling lives. Our year 9s were fantastic in showing respect to the presenters and participating in conversations throughout the session.

Direct contact with Campus and Team Leaders is an excellent way to provide support to students. Throughout the year, we would like to introduce you to our Campus Leadership Team. In this report we will begin with our Campus Leaders, Mr Ercan Hasip (7/8 Leader) and Ms Miranda Orford (9/10 Leader). They have kindly provided the following by way of a brief ‘getting to know them’.

Mr Hasip

As a former Copperfield College student, I am proud to be able to teach at the school which has helped me start my educational journey. I have been teaching for 15 years, with lots of experience with supporting students with their learning and helping them aspire and achieve their goals. Recently, I have been appointed as the acting Campus Leader for Year 7&8s and I really enjoy helping our junior students feel connected to high school after making that big leap from primary.

I am a passionate Carlton supporter in the AFL and I follow Newcastle United in the English Premier League. In my spare time, I like to play soccer and keep myself fit.

Ms Orford

I have been fortunate to work in a number of roles throughout my teaching career. I spent seven years at V.U.S.C,. throughout which time I was able to facilitate the Music and Arts departments, which led to me becoming a Learning Specialist. After being appointed as a Learning Specialist at Copperfield College, I was appointed as Acting Campus Leader for Term 2 for Years 9 and 10. I thoroughly enjoy fostering connections with students through their academic work, as well as working with them on their pathway planning. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, walking my dog, Romi, as well as still singing and playing the violin whenever I get a chance!

As you can see, lots going on and we have a lot coming up in the remainder of term 2. We look forward to continuing to work on our campus goals and having a ‘Champions Together’.
