This week has been a time to engage with the Reconciliation Week theme - Be a Voice for Generations. Students in all classes across our school have engaged with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, histories, stories and achievements. And we are embedding a focus on First Nations across all of our units of work, not just in Reconciliation Week.
I've seen classes develop their own Acknowledgement of Country; Learning Centres focused on an Aboriginal-themed text; students studying First nations sporting heroes and looking at everyday racism and what we can do about it.
Here are some Kindy students retelling an Aboriginal story through sand patterns:
Last week our SCR students held a Biggest Morning Tea to raise funds for the Cancer Council. Thank you to community members who donated cakes, slices and biscuits to sell at recess. We raised $625! Congratulations.
Learning Conversations are one of our flagship programs here at GEPS. They are a great opportunity to get together and talk about student learning. They build connections; they promote collaboration around learning goals; and they provide an opportunity for students to showcase what they know and how far they have come!
Last week was Mrs Maatouk's last day before taking maternity leave. We wish her all the very best for the birth of her second child and look forward to seeing photos soon!
