Deputy Principal's Report

Dear Parents and Carers

National Families Week

National Families Week is an initiative of Families Australia, celebrated in May each year. We can take this opportunity to acknowledge the importance that families play in our St Finbar's  Community. Family Week is also a perfect time to come together to celebrate the power of love and family relationships in all their diversities, and the importance they play in our lives and community. We can also reflect on the critical role that families play in teaching, supporting and nurturing children as they grow.

“Over and over again we see that family bonds are essential for the stability of relationships in society, for the work of education, and for integral human development, for they are inspired by love, responsible intergenerational solidarity, and mutual trust. These are factors that can make even the most adverse situations more bearable and bring a spirit of trust fraternity to our world, enabling it to feel as a single family, where the greatest attention is paid to those most in need.”
Pope Francis

To recognise the vital role that our families play in the life of St Finbar's,  our family posters (completed by you during Harmony Week) are currently displayed around the school. Most of the posters are displayed below...apologies if yours isn't there.

Resilience Project webinar - Authentic Connection

Yesterday our staff was privileged to join a webinar from Martin Heppell from the Resilience Project, directed at teachers. Martin was a primary school teacher himself so could speak from his own experiences in schools and classrooms.

The theme was Authentic Connection and Martin spoke about the power of vulnerability, imperfection, and passion to strengthen relationships, school culture and to support mental health. At St Finbar's we already place a high emphasis on building connections with our students and community, however, the content has provided us with some conversation starters and discussion points for future meetings to ensure that we continue to build strong working relationships with our students.

Meaningful May

The Action for Happiness organisation have released their Meaningful May calendar.  Whilst we're already well into the month of May, you may like to incorporate some of the actions into your daily practice.  More information can be found in https://actionforhappiness.org/calendar
