YEAR 12 STUDENTS
Important VTAC DATES!!
Please keep an eye on upcoming VTAC dates and deadlines.
REMINDERS FOR TERTIARY APPLICATIONS
Once you’ve submitted course applications, ensure you take notes on additional selection criteria for your course/s and record due dates on a calendar.
If you’ve applied for courses via VTAC, check your email as they will have emailed you if there are additional requirements for your course. If you’ve applied direct to an institution, check their website for information. Examples of additional requirements include:
Nursing and Midwifery
- English proficiency declaration form. Undergraduate teaching
- Selection tests such as Casper
- Australian Catholic University - ACU Teacher Selector Statement
- Teaching questionnaire
Note: La Trobe University and Monash University are planning to release an alternative test to Casper – information will be released soon.

Medicine, dentistry

YEAR 11 STUDENTS
MEDICINE, DENTISTRY, & ORAL HEALTH
If you are in Year 11 and plan to study medicine, dentistry and/or oral health in 2025, you may need to sit the UCAT ANZ (University Clinical Aptitude Test).
You will sit the test during Year 12 and selected universities use your UCAT ANZ results as part of the selection process, in conjunction with your ATAR and Year 12 results, and in some cases an interview.
You will only have one chance to sit the UCAT ANZ in 2024. It will cost you around $325 to sit the test, or $199 concession (costs may rise in 2024), and you will be able to receive your results straight away.
Please go to www.ucat.edu.au for more information about the UCAT ANZ. UCAT Preparation Programs You have the choice to start preparing for the test early. There are several private companies that offer commercial preparation programs such as: NIE, www.nie.edu.au MedEntry, www.medentry.edu.au.
It’s important to note that private companies are not endorsed by the universities that use the UCAT. MedEntry offers free resources such as a free UCAT exam, sample questions, and free bootcamp. Check these out via www.medentry.edu.au
ALL STUDENTS
AUSTRALIAN DEFENCE FORCE ACADEMY (ADFA)
Current Year 11 students who are considering applying for ADFA are encouraged to start their application now. You can complete the YOU (Your Options Unlimited) session at a local Defence Force Recruiting Centre or online.
During this session, you will complete an aptitude test which will narrow down the roles you are eligible for. If you don’t achieve the marks required for your desired role (e.g., pilot), you can retake the YOU session in Year 12. University degrees offered at ADFA are:
• Arts • Business • Science • Engineering – Aeronautical, Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, Naval Architecture • Computing & Cyber Security • Technology – Aeronautical Engineering.

SANTOS SCIENCE EXPERIENCE
The University of Melbourne is running an exciting 3-day program at the Dookie campus between 29 November – 1 December 2023 for Year 9 and 10 students. Dookie campus is a working farm - a centre of agricultural research and teaching. You will join scientists and agricultural student mentors in hands on activities in the laboratory and paddock investigating real world issues. There are 10 places left and accommodation is available at an additional cost. Book your place via www.scienceexperience.com.au
SUMMER SCHOOLS
University of Melbourne - VCE Summer School
The University of Melbourne will run a two-week summer school in January for students entering Year 12 in 2024. Applications haven’t opened yet, but students can read about the program and complete an expression of interest for the program via https://bit.ly/47RACUg
Magnify Music Camp Magnify
An intensive high-level skills camp for high school students between the ages of 14 – 18 who are serious about career success in the field of music. Run by Box Hill Institute, the camp will run between 15 - 20 January 2024. There will be a final concert on Friday night, where students can show off their newfound skills.
Entry is by audition and there are only 30 places.
