End of Semester Music Concerts

Two weeks ago, the Winter Music Soiree showcased 100 students in a wonderful two and a half hour performance to an audience of almost 400 people. Curated by Mr Nick Frampton, we enjoyed the full range of performances from solo singers, instrumentalists, original songs, bands, the Dunhelen Dance Group and a sneak peek from this year’s College Musical. Thanks to all involved.

Last week, another 100 performers, including our Primary choir, Aitken Songsters, took to the stage for the Emerging Performers Showcase. The 90 minute show featured students from Prep to Year 12, some performing to an audience for the first time. Congratulations to all involved, especially Mrs Stephanie Abela, who put the show together and all of the Music and Performing Arts staff who were involved.

College Musical

Tickets are now on sale for this year’s College Musical, 'Monty Python’s Spamalot'. Already 250 tickets have been snapped up across the five performances which commences on Friday 26 July. The cast had a full run through last Saturday and the show is looking and sounding great. Tickets are available from trybooking.com.

Leading this year’s production are Jack L as King Arthur and Lewis M as his side-kick Patsy. Although it is the first major role in a musical for both of them, neither are strangers to the Aitken stage. Both have appeared in featured roles in past musicals as well as the Middle School and College Plays. Jack is a member of the VCE Theatre Studies class, while Lewis is a musician who loves writing his own songs. There is great comic chemistry between these two which audiences will love. Keep an eye on the Aitken Facebook page for features on other key cast members. We are also looking for people to help spread the word about this fantastic show. If you are able to display an advertising poster in your workplace or business, please let me know and I will drop one off.

Senior College Play

Last week, students joined me for an information session for this year’s Senior College Play. Auditions for 'Tartuffe' will be held early in Term 3 with performances early in Term 4. Tartuffe is a French Neo-Classical Comedy by Moliere written in the mid-1600s but with issues just as relevant today. It is bound to be a fun production.
