Year 12 Students

Important information about the release of the ATAR in 2019: The Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC) and Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) are pleased to announce that the 2019 VCE results and ATAR will now be released to students at 7.00am on Thursday 12 December 2019. This new date is 24 hours before the date that had been previously published. This change provides additional time for students to receive their results, access support services and make change of preference decisions prior to the end of the year.

In Term 3, on Wednesday 7 August, the VTAC system will open to students for applications to courses for 2020. The College will hold a VTAC Information Evening for students and parents on Monday 12 August at 7.00pm in the Chapel and Performing Arts Centre.  This is a must attend event as important information about the application process and timeline will be presented.

Year 10 Students

Careers staff have started to talk to the Year 10 students about their plans for 2020 and beyond. Information about VCE and VCAL has been provided, along with an outline of the Careers / subject selection timeline.  As part of preparation for Year 11 and Year 12, we have introduced the students to the Career Voyage program.  Career Voyage is designed to start the career research process. It asks students to think about the things they enjoy and are good at. On completion of the program, students are provided with a List of Job Suggestions based on their answers to a series of questions. This is not meant to be a prescriptive process but rather open up a dialogue about their future and possible courses and careers which may interest the students. It is an ongoing and evolving process.

Students will also be given a folder of resources to assist them in undertaking their career and course research. These resources are designed to be used in Brookhill and beyond. They are suitable for long into the future. We hope students will store them carefully so they can refer to them as needed over the coming years.

In addition, Life Skills staff will be working closely with the students over the coming weeks to explain the subject selection process and to help them to research their subject choices. Early in Term 3 there will be a VTAC Information Night (Wednesday 17 July) and a VCAL Information Evening (Monday 22 July). Each Year 10 student will have an interview with their Head of House and a thirty minute one-on-one interview with a member of the Careers team.  Students have been advised that there is a great deal of support available to them over the next few months, as they make important and significant decisions about their future pathways.  This is an exciting time, to be looked forward to and enjoyed.  Careers staff have very much been enjoying the time they have spent with Year 10 students in their Life Skills classes and are looking forward to getting to know the students better as they travel through Brookhill.

Open Days

Most tertiary institutions: TAFEs, Universities and Independent Tertiary Colleges, will hold their Open Days in late July and August, usually on a Sunday but occasionally a Saturday. Attending Open Days is an important part of the course and career research process and it is vital that students walk onto the campuses which interest them so they can feel the vibe of the campus “through their skin”.  It is also essential to determine whether the campus is easily accessible and the courses of interest offer what the student is seeking and expecting. All Brookhill students will receive an Open Day calendar and some Hints on Getting the Most out of Open Days.
