TERM 2 LUNCHTIME SPORT REPORT - SCORPION FUTSAL

Lunchtime sport for Term 2 was the time honoured Scorpion Futsal competition.

The Year 7s were the first year level in action and huge numbers of keen futsal players entered the competition in what will hopefully be a yearly tradition for them in the coming five years. The competition was very fierce but eventually two teams broke away from the pack. The final saw a minor upset with the Hontzogloy name again finding it’s name on a winning team.

Eventual winners were: Dion Hontzogloy (Captain), Luke Sagiadelis, Ben Mason, Alex Varelas and Campbell Henderson.

The intermediate competition had all sorts of drama, with injury, upsets and even a team being disqualified from the tournament!

After all of the preliminaries we were left with two arch rivals. One team was lead by Liam Haidaris and they took on Dravid Dinesh and his well organised team.

In a final that twists and turns and missed opportunities it was Liam’s team which came out on top 2-0.

Winning team: Liam Haidaris (Captain), Tom Natsikas, Tom Umansky, Greg Umansky, Loki Zielinski, Lior Hadari and Sammy Lambrinos.

Six years of tradition and former glories/disappointments is the background for the senior division of the tournament.

Liam Atchison and his team were the warm favourites to take out the title against Stefan Simic's team in the final. In front of a very large crowd of Year 12s in the Gym, the final was a tight and tense affair with neither team being able to break the deadlock. It took until double overtime for Stefan’s team to run away with victory.

Winning team: Stefan Simic, Boris Elkin, Jiakai Thing, Giovanni Farag, Omer Steinberg, Quan Duong and Sam Kalomiris.

The Year 8 competition was the final tournament on the menu and they certainly didn’t disappoint with the quality and participation of play.

Sam Enever was the non playing mastermind behind his team in the qualifying rounds and they were certainly the most organised with their rotations. Unfortunately they ran into a Michael Guerra inspired master class in the final that was held in front of a healthy crowd of Year 8s in the Gym. Michael danced and weaved his way past helpless defenders in what turned out to be a one sided final.

Winning team: Michael Guerra, Thivi Salwathura, Lucas Boglis, Ron Golombick and Chevy Tofler.

Term 3 lunchtime sport will have two competitions running concurrently with both badminton and table tennis being on offer.
