Deputy Principal's Report

Dear Parents & Friends
This week we have really seen the strength of our St Finbar's community in the welcome shown to new families with children in Prep, as well as in other levels across the school. It is great to hear the comments about how friendly the children and parents have been. We strive to make this school a place where people can truly feel at home and have a genuine sense of belonging. These first few weeks are an important time of building those connections and establishing important relationships.
SRC - Leaders
The SRC leaders for each class have been elected and I will be working closely with them to plan some new initiatives and activities throughout the Semester. These leaders have the responsibility of representing their classes and being a voice for all the children at St Finbar's.
Meet the Year 6 SRC Leaders for 2018.
Jack Leo Charlie
Gigi Ursula Ollie Chloe
One of the first tasks for our SRC leaders will be to help decide on our new school winter jackets. Once a decision has been made these will become available through the school uniform shop.
7 Habits of Emotionally Intelligent People
Helping our children develop their emotional intelligence helps them to manage their own emotions and to understand the feelings of others.
Emotional Intelligence involves four major skills.
- The ability to perceive emotions
- The ability to reason with emotions
- The ability to understand emotions
- The ability to manage emotions
This week, habit number 1: Emotionally intelligent people pay attention to what they are feeling.
'Being Self aware involves the ability to recognize moods, emotions, and feelings. Part of self-awareness also involves being aware of how your emotions and moods influence other people.'
At home you can encourage your children to identify and name their feelings and talk to you about how their feelings affect other members of the family. For example when they are happy it may help to lift the spirits of others but when they are angry others may feel down.
