Koonung student involvement in community activity
Koonung has a very strong sense of community and it is very rewarding to learn of our students pursuing this beyond the classroom. Natasha Mulay (11E) is an active member of the Whitehorse Youth Representative Committee.
The Whitehorse Youth Representative Committee (WYRC) is a group of 12 young volunteers aged 12-25 years that acts as a voice for young people, advocating on their behalf to Council and to the wider community on important youth issues.
Committee members take part in a year-long program to develop leadership skills and attend training in the areas of consultation, public speaking, marketing, promotion, event management, advocacy and community participation. Members gain valuable experience and use their skills throughout the year to connect with young people, schools and youth organisations to implement events, projects and initiatives that benefit young people and address important youth issues.
Natasha has written an article in the Whitehorse News - June 2020 edition on the importance of communication during Covid-19.
Well done Natasha!
