St. John Vianney

Yesterday was the feast day of Saint John Vianney. St. John Vianney was born in France in 1786 and was one of six children. The Vianney family were devout Catholics and spent a great deal of time helping the other families in their home town.

St. John Vianney entered the seminary in 1806 and celebrated his first mass on August 12th, 1815.

St. John Vianney is considered the patron saint of Parish priests.

St. Mary MacKillop

On Saturday 8th, August we celebrate the feast day of St. Mary MacKillop. Mary MacKillop is the first Australian saint. Mary MacKillop was canonised, by Pope Benedict, on  October 17, 2010 at Saint Peter’s Basilica, Rome.

Mary MacKillop was born in Melbourne in January 1842. At 18, Mary moved to Penola to become a teacher. Here she taught her relatives and many of the children from the town.

In 1866. Mary became the first sister of St. Joseph in Australia. As time went on, other women joined and the order flourished in Australia. The sisters of St. Joseph were committed to educating and supporting the poor in communities across Australia.

Mary MacKillop retired to Sydney in 1900 although still led the order of the Sisters of St. Joseph. Mary passed away, surrounded by the sisters. in August 1909.

Sunday Masses

While we are still unable to attend mass in large numbers, there are some options available. St. Patrick's Cathedral in Melbourne have announced that the 11am Sunday Mass at St Patrick's Cathedral will continue to be televised free to air on C31 as well as live streamed on their website and YouTube channel

The Oblate of Mary Immaculate are also continuing to serve their community during this time. Masses and Prayer Services are live-streamed from many of their churches/seminaries to cater for their communities.

Sacrament Celebrations

At this point in time the information from the Archdiocese of Melbourne is that Sacramental celebrations are still postponed. We will of course keep you updated regarding any information pertaining to the celebration of Sacraments for the students.

Have a good week, stay safe and be kind to yourselves.
