Leadership Report

The election process for the 2020 School Council began last week. We currently have three parent positions available on Council, one Department of Education and Training vacancy, and one Student Vacancy (for a student from years 7-12). Any parent of a student at Edenhope College can either be nominated, or nominate themselves, for the parent positions. Nominations close on Friday 6 March, and forms are available at the front office. I anticipate that the list of candidates will be made available on 10 March, and that ballot papers, should an election be required, will be distributed following that. The ballot will close on 17 March and declaration of the results should occur the following Friday. I encourage any interested parents and secondary students to consider being active members of the School Council. A solid partnership between the school community and the College is very important for ensuring the best learning outcomes for the students in our community.

I’d like to thank all outgoing School Council members; Heather Ferguson, Loren Linto, Kirra Hessey and David Leahy. They have played an important role in providing alternative viewpoints, different insights and a high level of skill and expertise over the past two years.

The College Council president, Mrs Nikki Hollis, will shortly approve the Annual Implementation Plan (AIP) for 2020. I anticipate the plan being made available on the College website in the near future. Without going into two much detail, I thought a brief summary might suffice. The AIP continues to work on the achievement of our two main Strategic Plan goals:

  • To build active student engagement in their learning within a differentiated curriculum to stimulate and challenge all students.
  • To foster a safe and supportive environment and a culture that promotes respectful relationships, resilience, values diversity and is inclusive.

To move forward in the first area, our main Key Improvement Strategies will be to continue our work on developing a consistent approach to teaching reading comprehension across all year level and all subject areas of the College. In the second area, our one Key Improvement Strategy will be to continue the implementation of the School Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) framework.

Lastly, it is my pleasure to announce that 2020 is the year of our School Review. The review process is designed to help a school community to identify goals and targets to improve student outcomes in the school’s next four-year strategic plan. The School Review model is designed to reflect the significance of review outcomes for school leadership, professional practice, curriculum content, and student voice and school culture.

Our review has been scheduled for Term 3 this year. It will likely take place over 3-4 days overall, and will involve an initial validation day, followed by a number of fieldwork days, where consultation with various members of the school community may occur, as will observations of school practice. Over Term 2 I will complete the Pre Review Self Evaluation (PRSE) report, which will involve the active participation of College Council, staff, students and other members of the College community.

Please remember to contact me at the College if you have any questions about any issues or concerns you may have.
