Secondary School News

John Wollaston Year 11 and 12 Walkabout Cambodia Pilgrims with Deputy Principal Pastoral Care, Nick Jones.

From the Deputy Principal Pastoral Care, Nick Jones

As we head towards the long weekend and midway point of Term 1, I would like to thank all Secondary students for the positive way they have commenced the 2019 academic year. We have already enjoyed several significant school events including the Year 12 Encounter, House Breakfasts, Inter-House Swimming Carnival and the P&F Welcome Back Barbecue. The Year 12 students are busily preparing for their School Ball tonight – a highly anticipated event. These events are very important in developing the strong sense of community and inclusivity that we enjoy at John Wollaston.

We have two Year 12 students and three Year 11 students currently preparing for their Service-Learning trip to Cambodia during the April school holidays. The students and I will be joining staff and students from Frederick Irwin Anglican School and Peter Carnley Anglican Community School to experience this once in a lifetime opportunity. Students will be visiting small village schools to deliver English reading and writing lessons. They will also be visiting significant cultural sites to gain an understanding of the history of Cambodia.

Applications will soon be open for students to join next year’s Cambodia trip. This opportunity is open to all current Year 10 and Year 11 students. Our trip leader, Father Noel Oakey from Frederick Irwin Anglican School, will be running an Information Session next Thursday 7 March in our School Chapel. I encourage any interested students and parents to attend. The details are as follows:

Walkabout Cambodia 2020 Information Session

When:  Thursday 7 March, 6:00pm

All the best.
