The school community is still buzzing following the success of the P&F Welcome Back Barbecue this week. As the first community event in our 30th Anniversary year, it was a terrific occasion with approximately 550 people enjoying the sausage sizzle, food trucks and entertainment. Thank you to the many families, new and old, who attended and our talented students and staff members Hollie Burbage, Rory Marchant, the Primary Rock Band and the John Wollaston music students who provided the musical entertainment for the evening. P&F President, Sonia Reynolds and her hardworking committee deserve our thanks and congratulations. Their goals of "friend raising" and building community spirit were certainly achieved.

Since school resumed this Term, our Year 12s have been eagerly anticipating the School Ball. In fact, there has been discussion of little else! Fortunately the wait is over and tonight the John Wollaston School Ball will be held at the Parmelia Hilton Hotel. In keeping with tradition, the students have been briefed by myself and the Deputy Principals about the expectations involved in attending a formal function and I have interviewed all outside partners, including former John Wollaston students. It is always a pleasure to welcome back past students to the Ball and make acquaintance with young people from other schools and workplaces. In my experience our School Balls have been memorable occasions - they are a true rite of passage for our senior students who have responded maturely by bringing credit to themselves and the School. Thank you to the Ball Committee for their preparations this evening. The staff and I look forward to a wonderful night.
Our youngest students, the Little Wollies, have taken to their Pre-Kindergarten program with all the zest and wonderment of three year olds. Teacher, Chloe Devereux and Education Assistant, Sharon Leitch have developed a terrific play based program for the children which taps into their interests and develops their intellectual, social, emotional and physical skills. Even at this early stage of the year, it is pleasing to see so many of the children growing in confidence that stems from learning in a positive, nurturing environment.
