Principal's Message

Angela Richmond - Acting Principal

We are well into the swing of term two with various events, initiatives and actions taking place around the school. Our upcoming Open Day is on Friday 24th May from 9:30 - 11am where we will showcase our learning by conducting student led tours of the French Bilingual program, Literacy and Numeracy in classrooms, Kitchen garden program and Art, PE and Science specialist classes. Richard Wynne MP will also be in attendance and I look forward to welcoming him to the Fitzroy Primary School community during Education week.

On Saturday 18th May, the hall and school grounds will be transformed into a polling site for the upcoming election. Staff and parent volunteers have worked hard to run a cake stall, sausage sizzle and coffee cart which will operate outside of the hall on Napier Street from 8am onwards. A working bee will be held to prepare our garden areas and play spaces in the grounds of George Street. We also look forward to working together with parents of the L'École du Samedi (Saturday school) and the French Bilingual Association community.

The after school care working party recently met to review the school's parent and community survey data from term three which will be used to inform the selection process of an external provider. Recommendations will be made to School Council and once the final decision has been made, out of hours school care (OHSC) will begin at Fitzroy Primary School. Regular updates will be published on Compass and in upcoming newsletters.

This week School Council formed subcommittees to drive the school's improvement agenda, with the opportunity for all parents to join at any time throughout the year. Subcommittee meeting times will be published in the school calendar on Compass.

The 2019 subcommittees are:

Community Engagement and Fundraising - chaired by Allison Rickard

Education - chaired by Julia England

Buildings and Grounds - chaired by George Foulds

French Bilingual - chaired by Angela Richmond

Finance - chaired by Angela Richmond

With so many wonderful events taking place, our school newsletter will be published fortnightly and I encourage all parents to log in to Compass to stay up to date via the calendar and news feed.

For those of you who I have not yet met, I look forward to meeting you in person before or after school in the grounds, or at our upcoming Election day or Open day events.
