As the school year comes to an end, we reflect on the vast array of cultural offerings, activities and opportunities afforded to the students attending Mt Alvernia College. We have had a very enthusiastic band of young women from across all year levels come together to form the Cultural Committee. I thank the Cultural Captain Bethany Parker and her team for all they have done to increase student participation in this area. I also thank the Arts Captains for their continued leadership and influence:

Dr Lynham Award goes to a student in Year 11 who displays dedication and joy in the production of art works. This award will challenge the student to extend her work beyond the classroom and to provide her further encouragement in the development of her art skills.

The recipient is Maren L’Huillier

The DoBop Award is presented to cast members of the combined colleges musical The Wiz, who exhibited such qualities as discipline, initiative, co-operation, courtesy and flexibility, both on and off stage.

FCIP Musician of the Year Awards

We acknowledge and congratulate Sophie Napier winner of the 2018 FCIP Service to Music Award.

Achievement in Music Awards are presented to the following girls for their dedication, commitment and outstanding musicianship to their instrument and the FCIP: Lauren Brook, Loredana Coco, Mikayla Prentice, Georgia Spanevello, Alana Tweddell, Elesa Vlahogenis, Samantha Salter and Hannah Slade.

The FCIP Past-Students’ Excellence in Music Award is awarded to Erin Tweddell Yr 12.

Intermediate Musician of the Year – Lucinda Poy and the Senior Musician of the Year – Annalise Prentice

Gwenda Organ Cultural Award is presented to a Francis School student who has demonstrated outstanding commitment to the cultural life of the College. This year’s recipient is Hannah Slade in Yr 8.

The Michelle Landells Cultural Award is presented to a Clare School student who has immersed herself in the cultural life of the College. The 2018 recipient is Audrey Bennett in Yr 10.

The Cathy O’Malley Award is presented to an Elizabeth Hayes School student in recognition of significant contribution to the cultural life of the College. Congratulations Amy Strachan in Yr 11.

SHEP AWARDS

More than 1000 of the state’s best young musicians will gathered at the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University in October for the State Honours Ensemble Program (SHEP) – the biggest event in the program’s history. SHEP is now a firmly established aspect of music education in Queensland, bringing together young people from across the state to share their passion for music. We congratulate our students who were nominated to participate in this program:

Arrivederci to our EXCHANGE STUDENTS

At the start of this semester we welcomed two Italian exchange students. Their time with us is soon coming to an end. The families of Holly and Kate in Yr 11 opened their homes and hearts to Chiara and Giulia and we know you have all grown and learnt from this experience. Chiara and Giulia, it has been a privilege for us to have you attend our College and we wish you both the very best on your return home. So from all of us it’s see ya later mates and arrivederci!
