Vision for Learning

Defence Industries Pathway Program
In 2018 TAFE SA in association with ASC Shipbuilding and DECD are, once again running the semester length Defence Industry Pathways Program (DIPP). This year at Year 10, Chloe Jenkin undertook this program which has a practical focus on advanced manufacturing skills along with developing high-level employability skills for young people seeking to enter the defence industries. It also assists students in making informed choices about career options in this area. Students in this program use CAD and 3D printing to produce practical models and visit a range of defence industry providers including ASC. Chloe’s story appeared in the Newsletter late last term.
This course is strongly recommended for students in Year 10 who have a sound background and interest in areas including Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), problem solving skills and enjoy working in teams. Students who complete this program receive 10 Stage 1 SACE Credits.

Term 3 Care Group Connection and Career Evening
Our Annual Career Event and PLP Round Table Sharing evening occurred in Week 10 of last term. It provided the ideal environment for our current Year 10 students to meet with their parents and Care Group teacher to reflect on their learning throughout the year and consider their options in terms of possible careers and courses beyond school. Year 10 students were invited to share information they had gathered about their skills, interests and traits and how this can link to possible careers. They researched the requirements of their chosen industry areas and reflected on the capabilities they had developed during school subjects, work experience and other learning opportunities undertaken during this year. Sharing learning in this way ensures our students are well placed and supported as they commence their SACE programs in 2018.
Providers from a variety of Universities and other Tertiary Education venues were also on campus to provide information and answer questions about career options and learning opportunities. They enjoyed sharing their knowledge with our families. Particular thanks to IIFP (a well-established provider of VET training in hospitality, agriculture and food processing in the Northern area) who brought along their Barista Machine and provided awesome coffee all evening!!
If you and your student were not able to attend this evening we have asked the student to present their learning to you and the Care Group teacher individually. There is an opportunity to provide feedback regarding their presentation on the assessment form. This will assist PLP teachers in finalising grades. We would appreciate this being completed as soon as possible.

Term 4 PLP – Mock Interviews
Our Personal Learning Pathways program concludes this term with the Year 10s developing their skill in applying for and obtaining an entry level job. Students are required to complete a written application including Resume and Cover letter and then undertake a ‘mock’ job interview for the position. Past students have always commented on the value of this experience in preparing them for the challenges faced in applying for jobs now, and into the future. The Mock Interviews will take place on Thursday 16 November here at the College.
In order for this day to run effectively we require volunteers from our school community to act as interviewers. We do have some ‘regulars’ we are able to call on but we are always on the lookout for more volunteers. We would love to have some of our parents involved in this program (no experience required!) so I am hopeful that you will call or email me at the College with an offer to assist. (83683311 or annie.fitridge@endeavour.sa.edu.au). All details and information regarding the interview session is provided along with a very tasty morning tea. The interviews run from 9.00am until about 12.30pm.
