Dear Parents and Caregivers, Konnichiwa!

There has been lots going on this term. Staff are well into Report writing at the moment with reports going home Wednesday Week 10. If you would like to make an appointment to talk to your child’s teacher, please contact them and make a time early in term 3.

Staff have been heavily involved in Professional Development in Maths, Learning Design and Moderation, Rite Bite and Bookmaking.  

Congratulations must go to John Mastropaolo and Nick Warren, who have been nominated in the Public Education awards 2018. Well deserved. 

Congratulations to Ella and Hannah from Sue Reynold’s Year 5 class who had their artwork shortlisted for the Refugee week exhibition. Well done!

Congratulations also goes to all students who took part in SAPSASA knock out / state carnival competitions including football, soccer, badminton, cross country and netball. 

The Festival Choir had its assessment and received a B-. Well done choir. I admire your persistence and willingness to give it a go. You will really enjoy your experience when you perform at the Festival Centre. It is something you will always remember.  

If you wandered through the yard last week  at lunch time you would have seen a wide variety of products being sold by students from year 6 in their $20 Boss project. Congratulations to Lia Taylor who organised it this year and the year 6 students. Some great products were produced. 

Grange has had so much on this term. We have had Debating, the Oliphant Science awards, ICAS competitions, the Great Obstacle-a-thon and Chess club. There have been excursions to the Zoo, Maritime Museum, Marine Discovery Centre, Meet the Writers, Cleland Wild Life Sanctuary, St Laurence’s visits and the  Data wuy Dreaming performance  as well as several special assemblies to add to the variety. 

Friday July 6th is our winter warmers casual day. Wear your gloves, scarf and beanie and bring a donation towards Juvenile Diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is a lifelong autoimmune disease that usually occurs in childhood but can be diagnosed at any age. It affects over 120,000 people in Australia alone. Some interesting facts include:

* Type 1 diabetes is one of the most common chronic diseases in children, it occurs more frequently than cancer, cystic fibrosis, multiple sclerosis and muscular dystrophy

* Approximately 2400 Australians are diagnosed with type 1 diabetes every year

* 10-14 years is the peak age of diagnosis

* In Australia, around 95% of the diabetes found in children is type 1 diabetes

If you haven’t already, drop into the front office to see our Gratitude tree. Students have been filling a leaf with something that they are grateful for. A great initiative by the Student Leadership group. 

There has been so much on this term ……… and its only half way through the year.
