STEM – Term 4

The Big Ideas Club has taken on a new challenge in Term 4!

Keen students have been involved in a weekly STEM challenge in order to plan, implement, test and redesign a tower within set parameters. Using various aspects of science, mathematics, engineering and technology students were encouraged to be creative, collaborative and challenge themselves to take risks in order to produce a successful prototype.

In the latest challenge each group was required research concepts related to gravity and mass distribution in order to construct a tower using limited supplies. It was clear with time and research, teams were able to improve on their designs and apply their research accordingly.

I look forward to our next challenge of gears and rotations in the coming weeks.

STEM Day Out – UniSA

Twenty-five eager Endeavour mathematicians attended the UniSA Connect STEM Day Out on Tuesday 12 November. This day engaged students in a rotation of STEM workshops focusing on the science of flight, puzzling mathematics and an engineering design process. The program had a focus on why puzzles are fundamental to mathematical thinking and students were able to explore how this specifically links to problem solving.

The program ended with a challenge where students were able to design and construct an object within set parameters, using limited materials while developing their collaborative working, communication and time management skills.

A day enjoyed by all.

Connected Schools Enrichment Day

On Tuesday 19 November, Endeavour College hosted Term 4s Connected Schools Enrichment Day with a number of students from the feeder schools in attendance. Students experienced an intensive immersion into the Japanese language and its phenomes as well as exploring part of Japan’s unique pop-culture through an foray into the wonderful world of Yuru-Kyara (Japanese term for a category of mascot characters).

Collaborative mascots were created and students were asked to explain the cultural significance (in Japanese!) and present their final product for judging.

A special thankyou to Mrs Hansen for her dedication and preparation of this exciting day.
