Senior Years

Year 11 Camp

The Year 11 cohort attended a five day camp in Melbourne from Monday 4 to Friday 8 November. Through this camp, we were able to develop stronger bonds within our year level and learn more about the leadership skills which would be required for our final year at Endeavour.

During our trip, we had ample opportunities to build new relationships and connections within our year level, specifically within our individual Villages. These bonds were strengthened through activities such as the Melbourne Scavenger Hunt and through the process of creating mind puzzling escape rooms for other villages to solve. These bonds were further strengthened in an activity called “The Tragedy of the Buried Treasure”. Through this activity, we learnt more about our leadership and spiritual qualities. We were able to open up about our individual visions and goals for our final year of school.

Throughout our trip, we also had the freedom to choose a range of activities which we wanted to participate in. These activities gave us a chance to experience  new things which we may not be able to do here in Adelaide or typically be able to do on a family holiday. This included a trip to the Big Issue Classroom. In this time, we learnt about the causes and impacts of homelessness and ways which the organisation helps people to regain their lives. This activity was a touching experience as we were fortunate enough to hear a range of personal experiences, where a deeper understanding and respect was gained from a different perspective.

Additionally, we had the chance to sight-see around Melbourne. This included tours around sports venues such as the Rod Laver Arena, the MCG and the Marvel Stadium. There were also opportunities to visit the zoo, adventure around the aquarium, walk through the botanical gardens and museum and experience the views from the sky deck. Our days were jammed packed and the time in Melbourne was too short. This trip will be something which will be forever treasured and remembered.

Lutheran Schools Leaders Day

On Tuesday 19 November, the 2020 Student Executive attended a Lutheran Leaders Day at Immanuel College in Novar Gardens. The purpose of this day was to further develop our leadership qualities. The day began with a devotion from Pastor Fielke and was followed by a speech from guest speaker Mark Bickley. He talked to us about his experience before and during his time leading at the Adelaide Football Club. His speech was very insightful and provided useful ideas for us to implement as we approach our leadership next year. A key highlight was being able to build connections with leaders from other Lutheran schools who share common goals and interests. We were able to develop these relationships through group activities where we enhanced our communication, teamwork and organisation skills. This experience will prove to be a memorable day which will serve us well.  We look forward to further developing our communication and relationships with the other leaders.

Year 10 Outdoor Education

On Monday 18 November, Mr Herne and myself took 23 keen Outdoor Education students to the Port River for a Kayaking experience. Mother Nature was very kind in providing clear blue skies, sunshine and mirror like water which made the day very scenic. With the guidance of experienced instructors, students had the opportunity to develop different kayaking techniques, explore 10,000 year old mangroves and play some kayaking games to challenge their balance skills. Although we faced multiple capsized kayaks throughout the day, the warm weather made sure all students were still smiling by the end of day. To top it all off, we were greeted by several friendly dolphins which was a first time experience for many. Overall, the day was a positive experience for all students, putting most out of their comfort zones and surprising themselves with what they were able to achieve.

The kayaking excursion was a fun filled day full of learning experiences and a whole lot of capsizes. I enjoyed kayaking through the mangroves and using our skills to weave through all of the trees hanging over the side and looking around and seeing how nice the mangroves are. Liam E

The most enjoyable thing for the day was navigating through the mangroves as it made me turn tightly and quickly which I found challenging but fun. I learnt that turning is not just about paddling a specific stroke but combining multiple strokes and calculating in your head where the kayak will end up.  Riley S

Year 11 Business Innovation

Throughout Semester 2, our Stage 1 Business Innovation students created business solutions to the problem, ‘Mawson Lakes lacks entertainment venues’. Student teams moved through the Design Thinking processes, ideating and then pivoting their ideas. Their major challenge was to ‘test their market’ at Innovation Week. All teams set up a stall in the mall in Week 5 of this term and asked for feedback about their creative business ideas and products. All teams created exciting experiences for their target market; dessert bars, arcade rooms, table top mini golf and a 3D model of a new cinema and karaoke multiplex. We are thankful to our supportive College community and with their help we have raised over $600. These funds will be donated to orphanages in Vietnam – we have been supporting them for over 10 Years! Congratulations to the Business Innovation students! All teams were fruitful entrepreneurs who ideated, pivoted and pitched their way to success!

A huge congratulations to our Outstanding Entrepreneurs Award winners for 2019:

Semester 1 winners: Rice Rice Baby – Charlotte Michie, Jake Breen, Matthew Adcroft and Rachel Pfeiffer.

Semester 2 winners: The Dessert Parlour – Bella Materne and Katie Bowler.

A special thank you to all of our teams for their hard work over the course of Innovation Week.

Connected Schools Athletics Carnival

Each year a small number of Endeavour College students are lucky enough to be involved in the Connected Schools Athletics Carnival. This carnival is held between the three feeder schools of Endeavour College; St Paul Blair Athol, Golden Grove Lutheran and Good Shepherd Para Vista.

This year the carnival was held at St. Albans Reserve, the home of the Clearview Little Athletics Club. Mr Pearse and I had the privilege of attending along with fifteen stellar students from Year 10 and 11 Physical Education classes.

The students from the primary schools all gave of their best on the day and our students represented the College well as they manned the stations of Discus, Shot Put, Long Jump and High Jump. Thank you all for your enthusiasm and for working so well with the younger students.

Congratulations to St Paul who were awarded the Endeavour Cup for their winning results on the day.
