SPORT

Wow, what a start to Term 2 Sport at St James! This Term is always a massive term for sporting carnivals and competitions.

St James Athletics Carnival

On the last Tuesday of Term 1 we held our annual St James Athletics Carnival. This year the carnival was back at Sandringham Athletics Club after a two year renovation of the track and field areas. It was fabulous to see the smiles and triumphs on the day. Every single student tried their absolute hardest and I am sure were very exhausted when they got home! A huge thank-you to our tremendous volunteers and staff for all the encouragement and support on the day.

Well done to Chris on running another great junior carnival also. Always lots of activity going on in the middle for our juniors.

Our overall winners for the day were:                            Our spirit cup winners were:

                      Corbett                                                                              Mulquin

Please see attached a few memories of the day.

Holt District Soccer LP

On Friday 29th April St James had two representative teams at the Holt District Soccer Lightning Premiership. For the first time we had students from Years 4-6 who trialled and were chosen to play on the teams. Both teams had to play four rounds in their division, and win most of their games to make it through to the grand final.

A huge thank-you to Jason Storer and Gianni Conterno for their commitment to coach the team. They had much respect from the team and did a fabulous job of coaching the boys. In fact they did such a great job they will now have to come back again as the boys won the Grand Final and they made it through to Beachside!

The boys team won all 4 games convincingly with only 1 goal being scored against them for the day. Well done to the following students who scored goals, some of them scoring more than 1.  Boston F, Toby S, Alfie C, Jack F, Kristian V, Jack H, Josh F. It is a team sport and many of the goals scored could not have happened without the terrific play down the field in bringing and keeping the ball forward. Thanks to Hugh H and Sebastian G for stepping into the goalie position.

The girls team was coached by Sarah Black and myself. We lost the first game 7-0 to St Agnes Highett but then went on to win the next 3 rounds to see us placed in the final to play against St Agnes again. Well done to Milly C who scored many of our goals, well done also to Belle, Neive, Katie and Lyla who all played in the goals. Many of our goals scored once again were due to the terrific way the team bought the ball together down the field an not giving up.

Both teams had a huge amount of supporters on the day and there was a fabulous community feel, thank-you to all parents who were able to come and watch.

Southern Metro Regional Diving Championships and State Finals

On Monday 2nd May Keeley C from Year 6 represented St James at the Southern Metro Regional Diving competition. Keeley had to complete 3 dives and finish in the top 8 to go through to the State Final that afternoon. For those of you who may not know Keeley and her family are hugely dedicated to the sport of diving and that was evident on Monday. Keeley WON her division by 7 points to go through to States. Even though her middle dive did not score how she would have liked, she continued on to score 8, 8 and 7.5 in her final dive to see her move to the top of the leaderboard!

Well done Keeley and thank-you for representing St James at this competition. What a huge achievement.

Here is a wrap up of the day from Keeley:

Up first was Regions, which is basically where you verse different schools from your school region. I was a bit nervous because I wanted to do well for myself and the school. The 3 dives that I competed in were Forward 1/2 , Back Dive and Reverse dive. My first dive I was happy with, my second dive wasn't what I hoped for, but my last dive boosted me to the top of the leaderboard which means I won overall and won in my region. It also meant that I went straight through to state. I had to wait 2 hours between Regions and States so I had some lunch with my mum, played in the park with my friend and then got stretching. Now it was States I wasn’t as nervous, but I still wanted to do well. I did the same dives and improved from Regions. With 92 points I won second place for States. Overall I was personally very happy with my results and proud of how I did.
