DEPUTY PRINCIPAL'S REPORT

MS CATHERINE HOWISON - DEPUTY PRINCIPAL

As we draw a close on Term 1 I am reminded of the words on the mosaic mural near our LRC:

“We have much for which to be thankful” - Mary MacKillop.

After nine weeks of excitement, challenge, trepidation, stress, change and joy we find ourselves tired but, I hope, thankful. I am grateful for all our students have done this term to make it such an action packed term! I am grateful for all the support we have received from parents and families. I am grateful for the unwavering commitment of our staff.

It has been a quick term and we are thankful that it has been face to face. Our community has been renewed by our time together again. At the beginning of the year we announced that there were provisions for students who had demonstrated commitment to our values, who had excelled in particular areas or who had shown personal contribution to other areas of the community to be commended. This is a wonderful opportunity to applaud young people who are doing their best and living in a way that lifts our community. Congratulations to the students who have been given Commendations this term.

Digital Detox

My recent podcast listening (ironically on my phone) revealed that we check our phones every 12 minutes, often just after waking up. We know that this ‘always- on’  behaviour is harmful to our long-term mental health and the school holidays will give us all the opportunity to hit the pause button. Perhaps during these two weeks our students and staff might consider the benefits of a digital detox - time away from devices and time spent being in the moment.

I wish all our students and families a Happy Easter and a rest away from school and any pressures that keep us ‘always-on’.

My prayer is that we may all be messengers of Easter joy and hope.
