PRINCIPAL'S REPORT

MS MICHELLE HAEUSLER - PRINCIPAL

As we quickly approach the end of Term 1, it is wonderful to reflect on the many activities, opportunities and experiences our students have been afforded. This week our Year 8 students ventured off to Cape Bridgewater for their coastal camp and the VCAL students travelled to Melbourne, participating in activities that will enhance their program in the classroom. I am grateful that although we continue to live with COVID-19 in our lives, we are now able to live a more fulfilling life.

At the recent School Advisory Council (SAC) Annual General meeting Matthew Curran resigned his position on the council after seven years, five of which were as Chairperson.  I am thankful for Matthew’s support of the committee and myself, as Principal, as well as his guidance as the council representative on the College Finance Committee. I wish Matt all the best, knowing that he will continue to support the school and have an avid interest in its future developments in the years to come.

In farewelling Matthew, we welcomed a new member to the SAC, David Alderuccio and congratulate the new chair, Hollie Conlan. Other members of the SAC include Alastair Mitton (Deputy Chair), Jacquie Storer (Finance Committee representative), Tamara Grey, Scott Anderson, Tim O’Farrell (Catholic Education Ballarat) and Fr James Kerr.

Next week, being the last school week prior to the school holidays, we will hold our Easter Liturgy on Friday 8th April. This year the Year 9 & 10 Drama class will portray the Stations of the Cross for the school community. The Stations of the Cross are a devotion that commemorates Jesus Christ’s last day on Earth as man. The 14 stations focus on specific events and we are called at each station to meditate and pray.

The Easter Triduum is the most important celebration of the Christian calendar. Ending the season of Lent the Easter Triduum is a three day celebration beginning with the Holy Thursday Vigil, Good Friday and Easter Vigil/Easter Sunday.

Easter Mass times for St Mary’s Parish Church in Swan Hill are:

Holy Thursday (14th April) - 6:30pm

Good Friday (15th April) - 3:00pm

Easter Vigil, Saturday (16th April) - 6:30pm

Easter Sunday (17th April) - 10:30am

In finishing this week I want to thank the staff for the amazing work that they have undertaken this term. Every aspect of working in education has been impacted at some stage over the term and the staff continue to support each other, our wider community and most importantly, our students. The dedication of our staff is second to none and I am grateful everyday for the efforts that they go to, to ensure our school is as safe and productive as possible.

Enjoy a restful holiday. Stay safe if travelling and I look forward to working with you all again in Term 2.
