Sports Wrap Up

Wow! What a massive few weeks. We’ve barely had time to scratch ourselves in the sport department, with swimming, athletics and other sports heading out.

Thank you to all participants and cheer squads for the success of the recent swimming and athletics carnivals. Both days went off to a great success, and at the recent district swimming sports, Viewbank College once again won the district, continuing our unbeaten record for this area. Northern Zone for swimming and district athletics are coming up - watch this space!

At recent sports days, Viewbank has once again continued to be a powerhouse - winning cricket, tennis, volleyball and baseball. Lots of teams have already started their conquests, with our senior boys cricket team about to duke it out against SEDA (a sporting academy) for the rights to enter state finals. Best of luck!

Individually, students across the school have also had success too. The Wilson sisters, Eva and Freya, have been outstanding in their field of athletics.  Eva was only 50cm off her PB, Freya threw a 2.43m PB (32.46m), which because of the qualifing dates means she has also qualified for nationals 2023. Eva already has also qualified for 2023. Some photos of them are below.

Eva Wilson has also hit a new PB of 50.21m in the U17 women’s hammer at the Nationals. This ranks her as 2nd in the U17 age overall, but also FIRST in the people who are throwing 3kg. Congratulations Eva!

Also, congratulations to our recent sports teams who have gone out.

Viewbank has come second overall in the NMR swimming championships, with 3 students breaking records and a number of students qualifying for state titles in April at MSAC. The Senior boys cricket team also narrowly lost against the SEDA high performance program at the NMR cricket finals. After a tight game SEDA managed to chase them down with 3 overs to spare. Well done boys!

Congratulations to Mr Krieg!

And just when you thought things couldn't get any crazier, staff member Tom Kreig recently ran the Bright 100km Ultra Challenge!

I can only assume he was being chased for this length of time, because to CHOOSE to run 100km is amazing!

Unfortunately Tom was slightly directionally challenged at one point and should've taken that left turn, which resulted in him running an additional 4.47km. But what's a few clicks extra when you do such big numbers?

Congratulations to Tom on an amazing achievement! 🏆

My dad's favourite quote - give 100%, 100% of the time as you never know who is watching. Do the little things that no one else will do as that will set you apart from everyone else. MOST importantly, have fun while you do it and be passionate.

Looking forward to bringing you more information and results as they come to pass.

Until then… GET OUTSIDE AND PLAY!
