Peer Support Statements

So far peer support has been a blast. Despite our rocky start, I feel that over time we have slowly familiarised ourselves with the year 7’s and now we have a better view of how we would be able to adapt the standard lesson plan to make it more engaging. Even though it has only been three lessons in the making, it seems like we have jumped over most hurdles that we faced during our first lesson. I am glad to be a part of the peer support program and I am happy to be able to share this experience with a few of my close friends.

Peer support has been extremely fun! Over the last couple lessons our teamwork as a group has improved significantly and the year 7’s have become more involved in the curriculum. I am genuinely surprised with how much I am enjoying peer support and its amusing to see the connections between how I was in year 7 and how the year 7’s are now. It is far less stressful when you have a helping hand to make you feel more confident when facing scary year 7’s and I would recommend peer support to anyone who has the opportunity.

Peer support has been a great experience for me. Even though it was hard to juggle all the activities, our group managed to adapt from our errors, and we progressively made it more enjoyable for the year 7's and for ourselves. If I had the opportunity to do peer support again, I definitely would.

Peer support has primarily begun as what can be described as a very rewarding and pleasant experience! Having the opportunity to individually get to know and converse with the Year 7 students has allowed us, as Year 10 students, to reconnect with our past Year 7 selves, and provide some valuable knowledge regarding how to approach and adapt to an individuals high school experience. Thus far, it has been an experience that has taught not only the Year 10 students to reflect and teach others on topics that we are familiar with, but has also allowed us to reflect upon ourselves as leaders, and enhance our abilities and grow as a result. We are all excited for the upcoming lessons, and are grateful for the opportunity to be involved in such a program.

When I was first introduced to peer support, I was only interested because I saw some friends were doing it, now as I have had the privilege to actually do it, I realize what an amazing experience it is, and how much you can learn from teaching and mentoring others who are having a similar experience to what you did. I am very excited for what is yet to come from peer support and the year sevens.

I have found peer support to be lots of fun. Despite it being hard to get the year 7s attention sometimes, it is nice to see them get excited about some of the activities, and its overall just a good experience.

GRIP Leadership Conference

On Friday the 25th of March, the House Captains attended the GRIP Leadership Conference at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre.
We attended various conferences to build skills such as, public speaking, how to work as a team, building new ideas and finding new opportunities.
One highlight of the day was the loud noise segment that occurred throughout the day. This included fun games which also improved our listening skills.
Overall, it was a very successful day which has allowed the House Captains to plan new and exciting ideas for the school.
We want to say a big thank you to Mrs Grimes and our College Council for allowing us to attend this opportunity which has helped to grow our leadership skills.

Year 7 Camp

Year 7 Camp was held the week of 28th March - 1st April, 2022 at Alexandra Adventure Resort.

Camp by far, was one of the most memorable experiences for all the year 7s in term 1!  As well as meeting so many new people and forming tons of friendships there were so many fun activities for everyone to enjoy. These activities include high ropes, low ropes, archery, canoeing and many more. The disco was a highlight of the camp, all the students danced around in the dark with their friends with awesome tunes booming through the night. At the end of the night everyone lay down to gaze at the countless stars dotted across the sky. To finish off an action-packed couple of days we visited the Healesville Sanctuary to visit some unique animals and learn some new things of Australia’s nature history. Overall camp was an awesome experience and a time we will never forget.
