Week 2 Term 2

On behalf of the Staff of St Fidelis, I wish all the Mothers, Grandmothers and Significant Women of our Community a wonderful and joyous day with their families this Sunday. God Bless you all!!

Dear Parents and Carers,

Last Friday, the students, teachers and parents celebrated a wonderful Official Opening of our Junior Learning Areas. We were honoured and delighted to have welcomed many distinguished guests: Archbishop Peter Comensoli, Mr James Merlino, MP –Minister of Education, Ms Lizzie Blandthorn, MP for Pascoe Vale, Mr Jim Miles, Executive Director for Melbourne Archdiocese of Melbourne (MACS) Mr John Mills, Regional Manager for Northern Region and other special guests.

As Principal of St Fidelis, I was very proud to take the distinguished guests on a school tour of our new Junior Learning Areas and discuss the work of our teachers, share the learning benefits of flexible learning spaces for our students and teachers and share a little about the history of our school. It was also an opportunity to personally thank the Victorian Government for the Capital Building Grant and the additional Shade Sail Grant.

See the attachment to my speech if you are interested and were unable to attend on Friday.

A special thanks to my Leadership Team for their support in the preparation for this event, the teachers for preparing the students for the Blessing Liturgy, the School Captains and Vice Captains for their input and involvement in this special occasion, the parents who assisted with the catering at the last minute when our caterers were affected by COVID, and to all who were able to attend. As usual, St Fidelis' Community pulled together and made this a wonderful celebration.

On Friday night I received an unexpected text message from Ms Lizzie Blandthorn –MP for our community:

It was a privilege to share this wonderful celebration. You really do lead a beautiful community. You and your leadership Team your students and their families are all amazing. Well done on project completion and opening!”

Year 5/6 Camp

Our Year Five/Six students are off to Camp this week. The camp this year is at Sovereign Hill, Ballarat. The students will be away from Wednesday May 4 to Friday May 6. There are many benefits of providing our students with attending school camps.

Some such benefits include:

Social Skills: strengthen and established relationships with their peers and teachers and develop new ones. Team cooperation such as clean cabins, team-building exercises on the low ropes course, personal challenges canoeing etc...

Independence Skills

For some children school camp may be their first time away from home where they have to remember to brush their teeth, organize their own clothes etc.. Camp provides an opportunity for the children to take care of themselves.

Team Building

Children will often be expected to take on leadership roles and work together as a team to encourage positive decision-making.

Encouragement of Physical fitness

During camp, children will be exposed to a variety of experiences. These experiences are active and facilitate learning in a variety of forms, providing a greater awareness of skills and capabilities that may be new for many.

A big thank you to all the teachers attending and to Michael Jennings who has spent hours organizing for this camp.

Thank you for Donations to QLD 7 NSW Floods & Ukraine War

Last term we had three opportunities to raise money for the QLD Flood and the Ukraine War.

  • Open Day Donation at the Sausage Sizzle stand
  • National Walk To School Day
  • Casual Dress Day last day Gold Coin Donation

We raised a total of $900.00 and we have decided to donate $450.00 each to:

  • Caritas Ukraine Crisis Campaign where the money will provide families with emergency food, shelter and hygiene support.
  • The Red Cross QLD and NSW Floods Appeal where the money will go to families for immediate relief of basics food, clothing shelter etc…

A huge thank you for supporting these events at school and a way we can provide for others in our world and country.
