HOSPITALITY

Year 11 Hospitality, as part of their Certificate II Assessment, made salads for the staff for afternoon tea. Students have started designing the dessert menu for the HSC music night and the finger food menu for the Mass and Awards night next term. This involves students in groups, coming up with three menu items and making them in the kitchen. Then they provide a tasting menu to staff for feedback before making it for the event. Along with designing these menus they will be catering for the Design and Technology / Art night in the first week of next term.

Year 12 Hospitality visited the Sir George establishment in Jugiong this week to expand their knowledge of the Hospitality Industry. They were lucky enough to have a tour of the establishment and talk to the owner of the business. Students were treated to viewing all aspects of the establishment along with being able to sample the food from the kitchen. They now busy getting ready for the Trial HSC Examinations next term.

INFORMATION DESIGN AND TECHNOLOGY

Year 12 Information, Design and Technology students have been building, administrating and troubleshooting a server and network. They have setup the server to deliver DHCP and DNS services, act as a file server and added users, configured and reset passwords, added the users to different groups and are delivering updates across a network. They are currently working on their final assessment in the Certificate III Course. We wish them well as they complete their studies.

CONSTRUCTION

Year 11 were kept busy completing the tool box project which lead into the group work project of a high quality dog kennel using genuine building practices and materials. They are framed in pine, clad in Western Red cedar, have a pitched roof, are insulated and have scribed skirting. The students are working in small groups to follow plans to construct a quality project using carpentry materials, tools and equipment.

Year 12 Construction performed well as a team this year. The bricklaying proved to be a challenge for students early, but with practice, all students were soon constructing the wall and pier to the required standard. Mixing mortar, cutting bricks, site setout, laying bricks and finishing are activities that students always enjoy as the see instant results from their learning experience. The class with finish their practical component of the course by building a new Chicken Coop for the Ag Plot. The project has allowed students to work at a team and display excellent team work during construction.
