Founder’s Day
After months of wet weather, the students and staff of the College were blessed with a perfect June day for the annual Founder’s Day celebrations. The day commenced with a powerfully evocative Mass, focusing on leadership and initiative. The presence of several brothers, including Br Brian Berg’s interview by Year 12 students six years after they had originally interviewed him was a real highlight.
Following the Mass, the traditional Founder’s Day Concert, organised and led by the Year 12 students, proved to be an entertaining affair, with performances from two groups competing in this year’s ‘Battle of the Bands’, showcasing their talents. Between these performances, the audience was kept amused by the antics of hosts Owen Toogood, Louis Manenti and Anthony Chahin. The address given by Dr Lavorato (aka College Captain, Michael Bejjani) was a perfect note to end ‘The Block-SPC edition’ as part of the inaugural ‘SPC Gogglebox’ program.
With the previous two years disrupted by restrictions on parental involvement in preparing and serving the students and staff a barbeque lunch, it was fantastic to see the return of parents/carers and the comforting aroma of sizzling beef patties. With students from the College Drumline providing the appropriate fanfare, the 26th running of the Waterford Mile was completed. Achieving his maiden win after attempts in recent years was Deegan O’Brien-Kratuik (Year 9), whose great-grandfather was a student at the College when it opened in 1928, closely followed by place-getters Jonathan Meaker (Year 12) and Bailey Leighton (Year 10).
'Relationships, Support and Bullying’ Survey
Our prime focus at St Patrick's College is to promote the safety and wellbeing of young men under our care. We take our responsibilities for child safeguarding extremely seriously and therefore we commit to ensuring that our College has appropriate policies and practices to make it a place that is both safe and inclusive. Central to this is student voice and agency.
The purpose of this survey is to allow students in all year groups the opportunity to share their perceptions of student-teacher relationships, support, and safety at the College. The results will be reviewed with the aim of affirming current practices and considering areas for improvement.
Please note that students will have the opportunity to complete the 2022 survey during homeroom tomorrow, Thursday 16 June. An email will be sent to students providing a link that will allow access to the survey, which will take approximately five to ten minutes to complete. The survey will remain open until 11:00 PM on Friday 17 June.
