Co-curricular - Junior Sport

I hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend and spent some time resting before the final sprint to the end of Semester 1. The first semester is always a very busy time with all our major College carnivals and many representative opportunities falling within the first half of the year.
The Junior School Athletics Carnival will be held on Breen Oval on Thursday 23 June (second last day of Term 2). I invite all parents/carers in the Junior School to come along and watch on the day. Parents/carers will be seated along the green bench seats that run along the Fraser Street side of Breen Oval. Parents/carers and boys are not to mix throughout the day and boys must remain in their house areas when not involved in races and events.
All boys are expected to participate in their house 100 M and 200 M events. They will also be involved in novelty events and the tug-of-war. An open 800 M event will also be held for boys to enter on the day of the carnival. Boys that have nominated themselves for trials and that have been selected to move through to the carnival day will be competing in ‘championship’ events and will also be eligible for age champion consideration. These events will also inform the selection of the Junior School Athletics Squad.
This Saturday 18 June will be the last round of Winter Co-curricular Sport for Term 2. As a result, there will be no training in Week 9 this term (20 - 24 June). This will allow boys and families to be available for all Parent/Teacher Interviews. Training will recommence on Tuesday 19 July; Monday 18 July is a Staff Development Day. We will have three rounds of Winter Sport in Term 3 before eventually moving into the Athletics season.
A reminder for all boys that as the weather gets colder, please make sure that no ‘skins’ or thermal garments are visible under your playing uniform. When arriving and leaving venues, you should be in your College tracksuit jacket or full College tracksuit. Hoodies and non-College attire should not be worn.
Last week, we had three boys in the Junior School compete for IPSHA (Independent Primary School Heads of Australia) at the CIS (Combined Independent Schools) Cross Country Carnival. On a cool, but sunny day, the boys ran around the 3 KM track at Sydney Motorsport Park. All the boys ran well in a very competitive field. Unfortunately, none of our boys were selected into the CIS team. Congratulations Mason Portolesi, Archie and Charlie Ackland on an excellent effort.
I hope to see many of you next week cheering on the boys at our carnival. Wishing all teams the best for the last round of Term 2.
