To our wonderful school community,

Energy Breakthrough

This year’s Energy Breakthrough team ran the most successful election day BBQ ever, raising over $2500. Their organisation, planning and ability to get companies to part with food as donations should be congratulated. With 2 teams heading to Maryborough later this year, I am excited to watch their development. Well done to all involved.

Prep Enrolments

Prep enrolments will close at the end of Term 2. If you have not already submitted your enrolment for a sibling, please do so immediately. Thank you to the following parents for handing out flyers to their local kindergartens or child care centres; Courtney Nagwaka, Tina Douras, Kenix Chau, Yi Wang, Naomi Goldburg, Dianna David, Danielle D’Souza and Yuxuan Hu.

Therapy Dog

Kingswood leadership and School Council have agreed to the implementation of a Therapy Dog program. Mrs Kara Bogicevic will introduce her 1-year-old bordoodle ‘Leo’ to the school community over the coming months. She and Leo will undergo assessment and training at an accredited institution. We need to find an ‘office space’ for our new staff member. Soon Leo will be slowly introduced to our school environment, and we will create a welcome video about Leo and what his role will be. These are exciting new times for Kingswood!

Workforce

Whilst Kingswood is currently just able to meet daily demands for absent staff there is no guarantee we can continue to do this indefinitely. Across the whole state the pressure on teachers and schools is enormous and only increasing as we enter the winter months. To try and alleviate these concerns the Department of Education is allocating all teachers who currently work in our regional and state offices as emergency teachers. These actions by the Department only highlight how dire the situation is moving forward.

I would just like to warn the school community in advance, that on very short notice, we may need to force cohort specific groups into remote learning for short stints to overcome teacher shortages. This will only be triggered as a last resort.

The vast majority of families are doing an amazing job by not sending children to school who present with symptoms of Covid or the flu and for that we sincerely thank you. Unfortunately, we are still sending home a few students each day that should not be at school. If Kingswood is to remain operational our teachers and support staff need to be on their feet in their classrooms. The flu is smashing schools as 50% of all cases across the state are in young children. Please continue to help us keep our staff working by keeping children presenting with any symptoms at home.

Year 6 Canberra Camp Next Week

After many false starts, we are finally heading to Canberra next week. It is amazing that we are even able to go. We won’t let the -2 degree mornings dampen our spirits in any way. Additionally, all the ‘players’ will be in Canberra next week so the chances are high we will see all our party leaders.  Mr Wall thinks it is like Christmas and he will be like a child in a lolly shop!
