A Spotlight on Learning

Highlights from the Learning Specialists

Welcome to Term 2! This term, we are starting a dedicated space for our four Learning Specialists to share the work they are doing around the school. At ACS, we are very lucky to have this team of instructional leaders, whose role is predominantly to build staff capacity through modelling, coaching and facilitating professional learning for all. Each of our Learning Specialists brings a unique set of skills and knowledge that they share with staff and students.

This week, we would like to introduce… Kate Lachmund.

Student Excellence at ACS

Hello ACS community!

I first joined ACS in 2020 as the 5/6 Learning Community Leading Teacher. After two years of thoroughly enjoying working with the 5/6 students, staff and families, I am honoured to take on the new challenge of Learning Specialist for Mathematics (P-12). As part of this role, I am also leading our Student Excellence Program, and am grateful for the opportunity to share the amazing learning our students are engaging in.

Last week we were excited to be able to invite families onsite to attend the ACS Student Excellence Program Information Session. Fifty five students across Years 3-6 will be commencing some additional work in maths to extend their thinking, problem solving and collaboration skills. Students will work in small groups, and will be starting next week (in Week 5). This initial intake of students will build over time, with plans already in place to expand into 3-6 English, before including P-2 English, P-2 Maths and Secondary.

In addition to this, we also have Bella Dennis (Year 5) currently completing an extension course in Writing as part of the Department of Education initiative, the Victorian High Abilities Program. Bella looks forward to joining the growing list of ACS VHAP graduates: Seb Evans, Kolbi Benson, Dylan Warren, Beatrice Galang, Leo Goldsworthy and Bella Harvey (ACS Year 6, 2021).

I look forward to getting to know more families, so please come and introduce yourself if you see me out and about - especially if you see me at the first ACS Family Maths Night!
