Senior School

Senior Sub-School News June 3rd 2022

We are in the midst of an industrious and jam-packed period in the Senior Sub-School. From Year 11 Exams, to VCAL fundraiser projects it is all action stations at our end of the school!

A reminder for our Year 11 VCE students (and Year 10s completing a Year 11 subject): exams are on all next week. Here is the final exam schedule.

The following students have rescheduled some of their exams:

Please note: Year 11 VCE teachers have created a study guide for their students. Students should access their study guide for each class via Compass. Study for exams is imperative to student success and the upcoming exam period is a critical time for students to develop exam skills. In order to best emulate the exam conditions that students will face at the end of Year 12, we have employed external supervisors to guide our students through the exams.

We wish our Year 11 students the best of luck next week and look forward to observing their continued progress through the senior years of schooling.

Early Leavers Pass – Year 12 Students

Year 12 students who wish to leave school early on the days they do not have class after lunch need to do the following:

  • Bring a letter to the Senior Sub-School from home which confirms parent/guardian support of the student leaving early. The letter must confirm the day/s on which the student plans to leave early.
  • The Senior Sub-School will then review the request for an Early Leavers Pass.
  • If the pass is approved, a chronicle will be pinned to the student’s profile and the student will receive a laminated copy of their pass.

Units 2 and 4 Beginning Soon!

We are fast-approaching the conclusion of Units 1 (Year 11) and 3 (Year 12). From June 14th, Year 11 classes will commence Unit 2 and Year 12 classes will commence Unit 4. It is crucial that students have submitted all coursework for Units 1 and 3 before the June 14th deadline.

Student Absence Information and Processes

*** the following information comes from our Senior Student Handbook which has been available on the College’s website since the beginning of the 2022 school year ***

Experience shows that one of the first indicators of a student being at risk is when they start missing classes. We ask that families address attendance concerns early to avoid developing poor attendance behaviours.

Senior school students are expected to:

  • Attend all timetabled classes, excursions, assemblies etc.
  • Be punctual to all classes
  • Have a minimum 90% attendance for each Unit of study (VCE% on Compass)

At the conclusion of a Unit (VCE or VCAL), if a student has less than 90% attendance for each study/subject, then this will lead to an ‘N’ result.

All absences need be approved by the College.  The Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) mandates a requirement of attendance for teachers to validate/authenticate student work. Only the following absences will be approved by the College and not be considered as part of the minimum 90% attendance requirement:

  • Illness - a medical certificate is required.
  • Bereavement – contact the Senior School prior to the absence where possible.
  • Other Educational Activity (e.g. if you are on an excursion for a distance education unit/ excursion/ sitting an exam etc.) – you must notify the VCE/VCAL Team Leaders.
  • Other – if there are other valid reasons, these will need to be discussed with the Senior School Leader before the absence (if possible) or as soon as possible afterwards.

Family holidays, part time work, license tests, illnesses without a certificate and other similar causes for absence are not acceptable School Approved absences.

Students whose attendance is below 90% VCE accepted at the conclusion of each Unit will be notified that they do not meet the attendance requirements. In the case of extenuating circumstances, the family may seek to appeal the ‘N’ result. This can be done by contacting the Senior Sub-School.
