Shelford Snowsports invitation 2022
We are excited to invite new and existing students and parents to join this
year’s Victorian Interschool’s Competition. The competition is held at Mt Buller during Term 3, from Monday 22–Sunday 28 August.
Snowsports has been an integral part of the Shelford Sport program for many years. It is a highlight of the winter sports season for many students and parents. For those of you who have children who are keen downhill skiers or snowboarders who can comfortably make turns and slow down when needed, we welcome you to contact us to have a chat about how it all works.
Shelford Snowsports Team
The Shelford team is open to those students who attend the school from Prep–Year 12. New friends are made from the Shelford school community and broader relationships are forged through Snowsports.
Parent involvement is vital to make Interschools a success. We are looking to create a Snowsports committee consisting of interested parents.
Whilst Shelford staff will organise the administration side of team entries and bib collection for participants, they won’t be on the mountain for the duration of the Interschool competition.
Parents are required to organise transport to the mountain, on mountain accommodation as well as assist with course marshalling during some of their children’s races.
Students may compete in one or more of the following disciplines in the Victorian Interschools Snowsports Championships:
- Alpine Giant Slalom – skiers are timed on a modified giant slalom course
- Skier Cross – skiers are timed on a skier cross course
- Moguls – skiers are scored on a bumps/jumps course
- Snowboard Giant Slalom – boarders are timed on a modified giant slalom course
- Snowboard Cross – boarders are timed on a boarder cross course
- Ski Slopestyle or Snowboard Slopestyle – judged on a special course
- Cross Country – individual or relay (unsupported with Shelford staff)
