WELCOME BACK TO TERM 2 - REMOTE LEARNING PROGRAM FOR LANGUAGES

First of all, congratulations to our Year 7 students who made a great start to Language learning in Term 1 and thank you to all parents supporting their child in this new experience.

As so many Year 7 students always indicate, "a very different experience to what we did in Primary School".

All Language teachers at McKinnon started to prepare before the start of this term for our Remote Learning Program. We aim to keep our students engaged and have seen so far very good participation in the set programs. We vary the activities to train listening, reading, viewing, writing and speaking skills and always include the cultural learning in our tasks.

Please encourage your child to work at the timetabled classes on the subject that they would attend at school. This will help students to stay organised during our new ´school days´.

There is a list of resources for students and families below, which could be enjoyed together.

All students and staff will also participate again this Year in the Language Perfect World Championships starting on Thursday 14 May.

A Poetry Competition for German students (for the first time online) will be organised by Ms Reid and more information will be available soon.

ALLIANCE FRANÇAISE BERTHE MOUCHETTE COMPETITION 2020

Every year our Year 9, 10 and VCE French students participate in this competition, which gives them an opportunity to demonstrate their language skills.

In 2020, the running of the competition will be a little different, as it needs to fit in with the remote learning that is currently taking place. The Year 9 and 10 students will be assessed based on a recording of their recital of a poem, and the Year 11 and 12 oral assessments will be held online. Year 12 will also undertake a written assessment.

Our Year 9 and 10 students have been given the four poems they will select from and links to recordings of those poems. They will be making their selection shortly and beginning to memorise and practise at home. If you are the parent of one of these students, we hope you enjoy hearing the beauty of the French language while your child is practising.

McKINNON STUDENT ON EDUCATION PERFECT'S GLOBAL LEADERBOARD

They say "Work hard, play hard". At McKinnon Secondary College, we have a student who has successfully applied this mantra to his learning. Harsha Lanka (Year 7) who joined our school at the start of this year, has already broken numerous records on Education Perfect. He is currently sitting on first place on the Global Leaderboard, well ahead of other students participating in this activity around the world.

Let's hear it from the man himself:

"I first went through the learning for the Language Perfect articles and started to practise them in my mind, I started the dash activity and began to build up my speed in answering every question that came up, then I tried and tried until I could beat my previous score, which got me to the first place as a success! "

Truly an inspiring story for all language learners in our school.

BONJOUR! ¡HOLA! GUTEN TAG! 你好!

All members of staff and all students are invited to participate in the Education Perfect World Championship for Languages from Thursday 14 May to Thursday 21 May.

How to participate?

It's very simple. For both staff and students, you all have been registered for the event. On the first day of the championship, just log into Education Perfect and choose a language to learn.

If you have forgotten your password, click on “Forgot my password” on the homepage of Education Perfect. An email will be sent to you.

How to win?

Pick a language, either one you're already learning or a language you've always wanted to learn, and answer as many questions and get as many points as possible.

I will regularly give updates on how we're going via Education Perfect and will send an email at the end of each day to debrief.

The top students and the top staff members will receive a prize, to be collected when face-to-face learning resumes.

McKinnon Secondary College has won this World Championship several times and I'm very confident that this year we can be number one again. This is a fantastic opportunity to show the world that our marvellous and multicultural school has a passion for languages.

Looking forward to a successful event!

Merci ! ¡Gracias! Danke ! 谢谢 !
