KIDS IN THE KITCHEN

The Health Learning Area has encouraged our Year 7 Food Technology students to cook, if at all possible, whilst in a remote situation. We felt that this not only provides an opportunity to enhance their cooking skills but also provides a constructive learning activity away from the computer screen. We also believe that sharing cooking and food experiences with family members is an unforgettable experience and much needed in these times of isolation.

We are in the process of making instructional videos and who knows, some of the staff may end up the next Nigella Lawson, Rachel Khoo, Adam Liaw, Maggie Beer or Justine Schofield. It is also evident that some of us should not consider giving up our day jobs!

We appreciate the support of parents and want to share with you some photos, and comments of our first remote teaching prac. During Week 2 with the approach of ANZAC Day, we felt it was fitting for our students to cook ANZAC biscuits. They are not only an afternoon treat but have long been associated with the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps established in World War I and hold a significant place in the hearts of many.

PHOTOS AND COMMENTS FROM SOME OF OUR STUDENTS

They were delicious! And cooked as well as they tasted, soft and a little crunch.

I really liked cooking the biscuits, as they were very easy to make and that's why I didn't need the help from my parents. My family loved eating them and they were very proud of me for making them so quickly and washing the dishes after that. They liked the biscuits so much that they were all finished in two days!

I think this was a great experience cooking at home, because the long days of isolation needed a kick and I found that kick, it was cooking at home. I made some really scrumptious Anzac biscuits to commemorate Anzac Day and practice my food tech skills at the same time! Many family members also enjoyed these biscuits which put a smile on our faces!

The cookies that I made were fantastic to make. I would definitely recommend doing this as a fun and interactive activity with your family while in isolation. My family and I agree that these appetizing, divine, scrumptious and mouth watering cookies will definitely be made again in our house.
