SUPPORTING HOME LEARNING IN SCIENCE

The Science faculty have been looking at ways to best support student learning at home during the Covid-19 pandemic. We were very fortunate as we had already engaged with a number of online learning tools to assist students with their understanding of scientific concepts, and these tools work extremely well in a remote setting too. One online tool we’ve implemented in our Year 7-9 lesson plans this term is Stile.

Built by a team of Australian teachers and scientists, Stile uniquely engages students by bringing the real-world relevance of science into each lesson, and teaching the key scientific concepts behind it. The resource encourages students to critically analyse, evaluate and apply the concepts presented.

Stile is an online resource that features rich explanations, videos, illustrations and simulations that are engaging for students. Stile is uniquely placed to support students in a remote setting and to provide them with opportunities to collaborate with peers and receive regular feedback.

How you can assist your child

We encourage you to log in with your child and take a closer look at Stile, their work and the associated feedback they've received from their teacher. You can head to http://stileapp.com and your son or daughter will have a username and password to login.

To support their learning on Stile, students also have access to Stile’s revision app, ‘Squiz’, designed to help with the mastery of key concepts and terminology. The app is free to download on Mac or Android. Further information can be found here: https://stileeducation.com/squiz

As always, teachers are available online to assist your child. Please encourage your child to email their teacher or post a question on Google Classroom should they find a concept difficult to understand.
