Middle-School Students Shine

 

Congratulations to the following middle school students who have been identified by their teachers as going above and beyond over the last two weeks to demonstrate our college values. Well done and thank you to these students. 

Hello from your Middle School Coordinators!

 

As the term continues and we complete yet another week of remote learning I am truly amazed by the personal growth our students at DSC continue to show. Faced with many new challenges, our students remain dedicated to their learning.

 

It is also fantastic to see students being upstanding citizens of the DSC community by continuing to uphold the college values of respect, responsibility, resilience and teamwork while learning from home.

 

A big thank you again to all of students for their hard work. Please remember to continue to be prepared for class, present for each lesson, engaged in your learning and respectful of your teachers and peers.

STEAM Lessons from Mrs Katiforis' Kitchen

 

In recent weeks, our 7C STEAM Molecular Gastronomy MasterChefs have been working remotely on virtual experiments from Mrs Katiforis’ kitchen. This has been to reflect the learning being done in Science which also implements curriculum from both Food Tech and Maths.

 

Fractions needed to be calculated, food techniques thought through and the scientific knowledge of changing states-of-matter concepts were tested.

 

Students were asked open-ended questions and, true to our school values, students worked in teams and supported one another to solve problems.

 

Students' knowledge will be put to the test when they create their own Molecular Gastronomy recipe using molecular gastronomy techniques such as emulsification, thickening, specification, jellification, effervescence, physical and chemical changes, and changes in states-of-matter.

 

Mrs Katiforis has thoroughly enjoyed creating an engaging experience for 7C. As a bonus, she has enjoyed the delicious desserts that include the aeration of Jelly, handmade ice-cream and toffee.
