Principal's Report

We are now four weeks into Term 2 and remote learning. Once again, I would like to thank members of our school community for the way that you all have transitioned to this mode of learning. Over the last week, there have been updates from a number of different branches of the Department.

The following is a summary of what we now know:

  1. NAPLAN. NAPLAN and all associated testing events will not proceed for 2020 due to the COVID-19 situation.
  2. Transition from Year 6 to Year 7. Adjustments to the state-wide timeline have been made. Year 6 families should return the application form to their primary school (by email, post or by other means) by the revised due date of Friday, 29 May 2020.
  3. 2020 Surveys (student, staff and parent). Survey collection dates for 2020 are being reviewed in response to the COVID-19 situation. The Attitudes to School Survey will now proceed in Term 3 rather than Term 2, in a modified format.
  4. General Achievement Test (GAT). The GAT will move from June to October or November 2020.
  5. Year 12 end-of-year exams.These exams will be postponed until December 2020.
  6. Semester 1 VCE Unit 1 and 3. These will now end on Friday, 26 June 2020.
  7. VCE Study Designs. The VCAA has reviewed all VCE Study Designs and have published Adjusted Study Designs (2020 only). These adjustments are in recognition of the move to remote and flexible learning and to address some of the uncertainty for Victoria’s senior secondary students. Units 1 and 2 remain unchanged and there are very few changes to Unit 3 in a small number of specific studies (these are made clear in the Study Design available here).
  8. VCAL. VCAL students will have more time to complete their courses and this will be consistent with the revised dates for the VCE. There are alternative assessments to workplace learning on offer. If students are enrolled in a VET unit with a mandatory work placement, depending on the industry, the mandatory work placement may have to be deferred until it can be conducted. This may affect the timing of the award of the VCAL certificate.

As timelines, specific dates and general updates become available, they will be shared – most likely via a newsfeed on COMPASS. If you require further information about any of the adjustments noted, please contact the College via phone on 9848 4677 or email doncaster.sc@education.vic.gov.au.

Thank you again for your patience and partnership in continuing to support our students - your children - in their remote learning. Stay safe and well.
