College Assembly
22nd July
Our College Assembly last week was a great celebration of our student’s achievements over the course of Semester One.
A large number of parents joined us for the morning assembly, which allowed us to recognise the High achievers. A number of student performances and presentations were also showcased during the assembly with a highlight being a scene from the cast of this year’s musical “The School of Rock". I attach the list of students who received academic merit awards for Semester One, 2019 and congratulate them on their dedication to their studies and their determination to achieve their best.

Peer Tutoring Program
A new peer tutoring program is being trialled with our Year 12 and Year 7 and 8 students. The program, which runs each Thursday during homeroom, consists of a group of Year 12 students who volunteer to assist junior students with study techniques and any homework or assignment work problems.
If successful, the program will be extended through to the end of the school year.
Dante Alighieri
Poetry Recital Competition
At the end of Term Two , six of our students studying Italian:
Shayne Fisher, Lennon Hughes, Christopher Kelly, Kavithma Piyadigamage, Maria Hinen and Vanshita Udasi progressed through to the final rounds of the Dante Alighieri Poetry Recital Competition.
This competition is open to all secondary schools and is held at each year at the University of Melbourne. Our students competed in the finals rounds last week and congratulations to Year 10 student Maria Hinen who won her section of the competition.
Leadership Mentoring
Last Thursday, three ex-students Kalows Abdallah, Daniel Olasoji and Jeremy Nyerenyere from the class of 2015 gave up their time to share their experiences about leadership with our 2019 student leaders.
Conducted during lunchtime it was an inspirational session which explored their motivation for being a leader and the sage advice to place yourself in uncomfortable and challenging positions in order to grow as a leader. In preparation of our 2020 student leaders we will look to invite Kalows, Daniel and Jeremy back to challenge prospective student leaders on the concept of servant leadership.
Future's Expo
Our Careers Advice and Subject Selection Evening, “The Futures Expo", took place on Wednesday of this week in the St Paul the Apostle Centre. It was pleasing to see the number of families and students take up the opportunity to meet with Universities and TAFE Colleges around future pathway information. My thanks to the Careers Co-ordinator Ms Leana Bailey, the Learning Leaders and staff who assist not only with the staging of our Futures Expo but their ongoing mentoring of our students in regard to careers advice.
