The Year to Date
Alumni News
We’ve had a great start to the year connecting with our Alumni in various ways. The Kilvington Fair and Open Day in March was a fabulous event attended by many both within our Kilvington community and beyond.
Thanks go out to Julie Scott, Lucy Thompson, Cassie DeNardis and Rebecca Zolotareva for their assistance in running the Alumni Stall on the day. The Wine Bingo was a real hit, along with the Kilvington branded merchandise sold at the stall. We raised over $500 which will go towards the PFA donation to the School.
We have hosted a Class of 2018 reunion for the first time, Walsh Club (50 years plus) and the 5 and 10 year reunion so far this year. You'll find photos and quotes from these events on the next page.
In the next half of the year, we will be hosting more reunions and events. For further details and to book see the Upcoming Events page. We hope to see you there!
Don’t forget to join our dedicated Kilvonian Facebook Group, check out the Kilvonian website and stay connected.
Professor Jayashri Kulkarni
Awarded AM
The Kilvington Community heartily congratulates past student and current Chair of the Kilvington Board, Professor Jayashri Kulkarni, on receiving an AM in this week’s Queen’s Birthday awards for her outstanding contribution to medicine in the field of psychiatry.
Professor Kulkarni is a world-leading mental health researcher and director of the Monash Alfred Psychiatry research centre (MAPrc). Her world-first research on the relationship between women’s hormones and mental illness has led to new and improved treatments for conditions such as schizophrenia and depression.
Professor Kulkarni graduated from Kilvington Baptist Girls School in 1975 after receiving a scholarship to attend the School in Year 6.
“Kilvington nurtured and encouraged me in every way,” she states with a great fondness for her school days. At Kilvington, she was encouraged to pursue her passion for medicine*.
Working as a young Registrar at the former Royal Park Psychiatric Hospital, Professor Kulkarni was drawn to the plight of mothers who had developed mental illness after giving birth.
“I got to meet women who had been institutionalised for a long time and they told me about the fact that they had children,” she says. “The psychosis had happened post-partum and it hadn’t improved.” This led to a distinguished career investigating the relationship between hormones at varying life stages and women’s mental illness. World-first estrogen treatments for psychosis and other mental health conditions have been developed from this research, which began in the late 1980s.
Professor Kulkarni has served as Chair on the Kilvington Board since 2012 and both her two daughters attended the School.
We are indeed fortunate to have an individual of Professor Kulkarni’s intellect and compassion as a key contributor to the growth and success of Kilvington Grammar.

Former Principal's Passing
It is with deep sadness to announce that former Kilvington Baptist Girls Grammar School Principal, Warren Stone, passed away peacefully on Friday 3 May.
Warren Stone was Kilvington’s first male Principal, filling this role from 1974 – 1993. As a passionate supporter of the Arts, he was instrumental in the production of Kilvington’s very first musical in 1975, Gilbert & Sullivan’s H M S Pinafore. The enormous success of the production was the catalyst for Performing Arts becoming the Kilvington flagship program it is today.
Under Warren’s erudite leadership, Kilvington enjoyed a burgeoning reputation as a fine girls’ school. Facilities were expanded and improved during his tenure, buildings were renovated and modernised, Dalton Hall was completed and the current Senior School was built. Importantly, Warren grew the School to its highest level of enrolments as a girls school.
Warren maintained a keen interest in Kilvington following his Principalship, attending events and supporting many initiatives. He will be sadly missed.
We extend our deepest sympathy to his children Jonathon, Allison, Peter and Ben and their families.
