Relationships

Drop off times and supervision

Yarrabah School aims at providing the highest standard in establishing relationships, delivering instruction, providing a caring and safe environment and preparing your child for life after school.

To do this well we require the understanding and participation of all in our community.

Yarrabah School wish to remind families of the student arrival and supervision arrangements. All student arrivals, prior to 8.50am must remain under the supervision of a parent or carer.

The school will provide common areas for students and carers who arrive earlier than 8.50am in each section from 8.45am. It should not be the responsibility of another child's parent or carer to supervise children in these areas. It must always be the responsibility of each child's carer or parent to organise supervision of their own child.

Homeroom doors will remain closed until 8.50am. From 8.50am a staff member will open the classroom and students may begin their morning preparations.

In cases where students are frequently dropped off unsupervised, before opening hours, the school Wellbeing Coordinator will make contact with families.

An SMS will be sent to families of students arriving unsupervised prior to 8.50am referencing the school supervision policy.

The supervision of students is very important to Yarrabah School. We have reviewed our policies and believe supervision by families or carers, prior to the start of the school day is essential. It not only ensures students remain safe but provides staff the time required to prepare for the day without interuption.

We are speaking to our provider about the likelihood of establishing a before school care service. A survey will be circulated to families requesting information about before school care at Yarrabah School in the coming weeks.

If you have any questions related to this policy, please feel free to contact the school on 03 9580 0384.

Update on safety drills and air quality

Over the holiday period we have kept track of the bushfire crisis. The school is very conscious of ensuring all students are kept safe during attendance at Yarrabah School. As a result Yarrabah will be undertaking a number of emergency evacuation drills in Term 1. You will be notified when a drill has taken place on any particular day.

In consultation with the Department and school community, Yarrabah School will consider the safety of all students when air quality falls below a particular rating. We are currently awaiting further advice from the department on this matter. On the occasions that air quality is deemed hazardous by the EPA, students will remain indoors.

For more information, please contact the school on 03 9580 0384.

Coronavirus

Dear Families, carers and community members,

As you may be aware, the situation regarding the emerging outbreak of novel coronavirus has continued to evolve.

The Commonwealth’s Chief Medical Officer and Victoria’s Chief Health Officer have recommended a stronger precautionary approach to managing coronavirus for travellers returned from Hubei province.

This recommendation is that parents/guardians/carers of students should ensure that any returning student is isolated at home and should not attend school for 14 days:

  • following exposure to any confirmed novel coronavirus case; or
  • after leaving Hubei Province.

This same advice applies to any staff who have returned or are returning from Hubei province.

The Chief Health Officer’s current advice is that staff and students do not need to be isolated at home if they have recently travelled in other parts of China or other countries and are not showing any symptoms of the virus.

Please refer to the fact sheet available here .

If you have any concerns or questions, please direct them to the school. The school nurse can be contacted to discuss any concerns you have in relation to the medical needs of your child.

I thank you in this matter and aim to keep you all up to date with health recommendations.
